an aquaintance and i were shooting at the range the other day and he was shooting his 223 savage. he was shooting
5 shot groups , one hole groups. no big deal right, WRONG. he was useing 52 gr hornaday match bullets
and blue dot powder. he had started out with 12.5 gr up
to 14 gr. he said that u can use 4 to 14. 4 gr gave 1061
fps while 14gr was 3012 fps. the 4 gr sounds like a 22 LR.
he got this from acurateloading.com list. yes i was impressed

I'm the guy that "jbunny' was shooting with.
The person that did the load development with Blue Dot in the .223 states that most of the loads won't operate a semi-auto. Once you get to the heavier loads, some of them will function.

I figured out how much it was costing me to shoot these loads, and it was around 16 cents a shot. I can't shoot my .17HMR for that price.

I shot some 50 grain bullets over my chrono with 13.7 grains of Blue dot, and was averaging 2850 fps.

Lots of info on blue dot loads at accuratereloading.com. I think the guy doing the bulk of the load development goes by the name seafire.

I'm currently loading .223 for roughly 20 cents a shot using
55gr BTFMJ (PMC new in 100's packs at $8 a pack = 0.08 per round)
25gr of Win 748 (1 lbs for 280 loads at $26 = 0.09 per round)
Win Small Rifle Primer (0.03 per round)
Velocity is closer to 3K fps.
Now I could switch to 4gr of universal for velocity around 1000fps, but where is the long range accuracy? If you are shooting at under 50yrds, you may as well use a .22 for 0.03 per shot.
