.223 Rem powder options

Whatever is cheap in the 8lb jug. I bought a jug of h335 for a little more than $200 last year. I should've bought all three they had. I'm on the lookout for a 8lb keg of either varget or blc-2 now. I've had good luck with both of them in .223 and can use them in .308 as well. Blc2 and h335 meter the best for volume reloading.

H335.

No one has enough time in life to cope with Varget through a powder chopper....

How are you measuring your charges? I'm also shooting a CZ bolt-action; 25gr Varget under cheap 55gr bulk FMJBT's, and I shot my first-ever sub-MOA with it; velocities just under 3,000 fps. But the charge thrower on the Hornady LnL DOES NOT LIKE Varget; what the hey, good excuse to buy a RCBS auto-scale. :)

A suggestion, if you can find it - I went with 25gr Varget because it's an easy number to remember and doesn't QUITE fill the case, and FMJ's are only good for killing pieces of paper anyway. But out of curiosity, I bought a box of Hornady Superformance 55gr ballistic-tips, and they're stepping-out at 3,400 fps - a whole lot faster for not much more powder, because not much more powder could fit in the case. You might try a pound of Superformance Varmint, if you can find it - the note on the jug says Superformance for .243 and bigger, Superformance Varmint for smaller than .223 (EDIT - .243 - D'oh!). I've never seen it anywhere, and the gun stores down here've never even heard of it, not even the (very) few that sell Superformance.

I would suggest getting a loading manual like the rest of us. There is more in print for this caliber than almost any other.

Having that said, the honey load for your AR will be very different from your bolt gun because of the twist ratio. You would get better information for loading data if you posted the model of your rifle and particulars of the barrel such as length and twist. Odds are good that someone with the exact same rifle as you has already done the work and can give you a good starting point. To just erroneously ask whats a good load for 223? will give you more irrelevant answers than ones that might apply.
