Hey guys, looking into doing some reloading for .223 that will be used in my ar-15. I normally use a charge master for my .308 with H4895, but seeing as how i am only using my AR to a max of 300 yds, i would like to use a powder measure to load for this to speed it up. I am looking to use a spherical type powder so the powder measure will be more accurate, so i guess my question is, is BL-C2 any good for an AR? Is it to temp sensitive or will it be fine for what i want? Im not dead set on BL-C2, so any suggestions would be great. thanks

It's a good ball powder for .223, use mag primers and they will help keep velocity the same regardless of temp.

What weight projectile? If you're using 55 grain, BLC2 is quite slow as is CFE223. This usually means a dirtier burn and more powder used for less velocity - not ideal but not a safety issue.

While I'm still experimenting myself to find ball powders/loads that shoot reasonably well in my rifles and duplicate my standard IMR 4895 load I hear good things about H335 and Benchmark (for the lighter bullets).

CFE223 works quite well for the 53gr match rounds but I'm shooting from a single shot TC encore pro hunter. I haven't had any issues and I load in a progressive press with a powder measure.

So I just got back from the range after trying a few loads, I started at 25 gr of bl-c2 and worked up to 27. No pressure signs, but velocity was only 2650 at 27 grains, with a 55 gr fmj out of a 16.5 dd barrel. This seems pretty slow to me. Has anyone else chronographed their loads out of a 16.5? I'm curious to what the average is for ar bulk ammo. I know I chronographed federal bulk at 2950 before
