223 Starline brass

Still a beginner reloader but thought this post would be useful.
Just recently purchased 100 new Starline brass in .223

Here are my personal and humble thoughts.

- Starline brass seems to be much harder than Lapua brass
- Case mouths of Starline brass are rougher than Lapuas. They need chamfering and deburring.
- I measured 35 cases to load a ladder test. All were 1.750, except for 4 cases at 1.748.
- Weight varied between 99.8 grs and 100.6 grs

All brass needs to be chamfered inside and outside prior to loading.

Case trimming is a good idea if they are too long. Trim to spec length.

The weight of the brass isn’t that critical unless you are joining the marines, and becoming a sniper!….

I've been happy using Starline brass in 6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Creedmoor, 338 Federal, 357 & 44 Mag. I think I'll grab some in 22 ARC & 6mm ARC when I can

Used/use starline in 5 different calibers. Never a problem.

Always chamfer in and out on all brass new, even the expensive stuff. In fact I also run the mandrel through it, so when I go and reload it for the 2nd go round the size is the same. Cuz when I resize I have removed the expander ball on the sizing dies and run through the expander, this way they start closer to the same from the get go.

Found that there is less of the "need to fireform" brass to your chamber effect and generally get results the same; new brass to once fired.

Think I ran a best at .355" 5 round group in the 223 when I was running one.

I really like starline but not sure it's harder than lapua.
Excellent brass for the money.
