223 target rifle, savage or rem, 20 or 24-26 barrel?

.223 52 grain will shift 12" at 100 yards with a full crosswind? really? that much....i dunno i find that hard to believe. I dont know any better but that seems a bit drastic. Is that from your experience?

Yes, a one foot drift with 52 gr MKs in a full value 65-70K cross wind. My .222 load gave me a MV of 3150 which is only slightly below a .223. Ordinarily one would not choose to shoot across a strong wind, but you don't learn to dope wind by only shooting on calm days.

70 mph crosswind is 7 inches drift at 100 yards for a 223. not a foot.

I'm sure that's what the ballistic programs suggest, but it was not my experience. At the time I was shooting that rifle quite a bit, so I knew that in still conditions it was hitting point of aim, but the wind really made those little MKs take off compared to a similar bullet in a larger caliber.
