Does Anyone Know If A 223 Can Be Reamed Out To A 220 Swift? If Not, What 22 Cal Centerfire Can Be? Also, Anyone Know Of A Good Smith In Alberta Who Could Do This? Any Info Or Suggestions Would Be Greatly Appreciated, Thanks Guys.
If the action/magazine will handle the swift cartridge and the bolt face can be opened up and the barrel twist rate is ok and there is enough metal in the chamber area, sure. But you get my drift, a lot of work for dubious pay-off. I'd sell the rifle and buy another one in the swift caliber, you'll be cheaper off in the end and won't have to wonder about safety
a 22-250 could be reamed out to the swift. They are both based on the short action with a similar sized bolt face. The 223 is more of a micro action as it were. Maybe a 223 AI?
Even that conversion requires that the barrel be set back a lot. The Swift is smaller in diameter at the rear of the chamber than is the 22-250, so it makes problems. The 223 can be AI'd for the best performance on that bolt face size. Regards Eagleye.
