Hi,

When buying a black rifle or something that looks like a black rifle,

How important is the caliber 223 vs 308.

Do you prefer the 308 but do not find too many black rifle out their in that caliber.

Thanks, for any input.

spoken like a true gun nut:D

What do you want the gun for? target? long range?

hunt with it too? playing commando?

Purpose : just to have one, they look cool.

Reason: Target shooting, long range.

Since I will be putting lots of gadgets once I buy one , my estimation is it will be around 5-6000 dollars by the time I finish, so my intention is to buy only one so I am leaning more for the 308.

Please give me more reason to buy 223 beside ammo price.( I reload )

10 round magazines vs 5 round magazines for the 308.

I would love a 7.62 but there is not a 7.62 worth buying right now.

Maybe HK417 or SCAR-H or Mapul 7.62...hahaha.....when the unicons come, or when LWRC figures out what to do with the location of the charging handle and the method of IA drill, or exactly when it is going into production.

Get both! :dancingbanana:

I like .223 from the AR platform (Colt LE 6920)
I like .308 from the M14 platform (SEI builds)

I think the charging handle is exactly where it should be - the AR cocking handle is a freaking abortion....

I challenge you to do a proper IA drill with that charging handle and the location of the bolt catch. I will send you 20 bucks if you can do it without using 3 hands.

The problem with this question is that as mentioned... there are only two major .308 rifles in Canada to go with: AR10 and M14S

I recently got the M14S and am really liking it - the price is low enough that it can be upgraded substatially for roughly the same cost as an AR10.

So it goes like this:
AR10 - Restricted
M14S - Non-Restricted

:)

"...do not find too many black rifle out their(sic)..." That's because nearly all of 'em are prohibited. Kind of limits your options.
"...give me more reason to buy 223..." 'I want one' is reason enough.
"...putting lots of gadgets..." A good barrel with the right rifling twist, sights and trigger are more important than any gadget.
"...10 round magazines..." 5. It's a centrefire.

AR-15's can use the RRA LAR-15 10 round pistol magazine (designed for the RRA .223 PISTOL) thanks to the leg work by Questar. We can use the magazine in any AR15 because the magazines are the same between the AR15 rifles and pistols. As far as the law is concerned, it does not matter what firearm the magazine is used in but what it was "originally designed for."

Seems I could do an IA drill with a C1A1 without help....mind you it didn't go down often. :D

I shoot a lot of .22lr, 7.62X39, and .223 because the experts tell me that I need to shoot lots to get good. These calibres are affordable. I shoot .308 in a bolt action because I'm not a millionaire just yet.

You might want to consider something in7.62x39 as well, the ammo is cheaper than both 5.56 and 308, the guns are like half or less compared to 5.56, and there are some non-restricteds, which means you could use it off the range. If you just want a cool toy to own, which it may sound like you do, and you've got a large budget, which it also sounds like you do, a 5.56 is pretty much unbeatable for accessories and also being able to use ten round pistol mags. For me, being able to double my ammo is having me re-consider getting a 5.56, despite the rediculous prices of 5.56 rifles.

I agree with you but no nice and cool looking black rifles in 7.62x39, that was my first choice before the 5.56 and 308.

Any nice looking rifles in 7.62x39.

Thank you.

^non restricted VZ-58L (chrome lined barrel) is king of 7.62x39 in my opinion.

Hard to come by though. Glad I got mine when they first became available... CZ-858 is also a good rifle. Nearly identical to the 58L but no chrome bore means more intensive cleaning with corrosive ammo.
