.223- What rifle to get ?

On a whim, (and cause I'd never owned a browning bolt gun) I ended up buying a Browning Micro-medallion A bolt in .223 and I have to say, that it shot .85" Ten-shot groups at 100 with that white box winchester ammo. (45 gr)
It is sooooo smooth to feed, and made so well, that I am gonna look for another similar Browning in another caliber. No one seems to buy many brownings on the EE, so they go for cheaper than they should. I paid 475 for mine, and I have to say.........wow.

In the spring I felt the need to get a .223 bolt gun and ended up with a Savage Hunter Max 1. I haven't done any load development with the 55gr V-Max but did do some with the 60gr Noslers. Here's a pic of a 5 round group @ 114 yards.

Yup but my T3 shoots .45" 20 round groups with any random ammo at 250 yrds!!!... with iron sights no less...

:jerkit:

Let me elaborate a little, I was shooting single shot from a lead sled rifle rest with 50 lbs of lead shot on the tray and the rifle strapped down, I was using a 24x scope, zero wind, and an exceptionally accurate rifle. Plus it was -31c that day , so obviously no overheated barrel. I have never tried this rifle at longer ranges, so I have zero say on its ability to shoot at 200+ yards. But, it is by far the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. They are bedded from the factory and have the best of materials in their make up. Just because your Eatons POS can't cut it, don't rain on my parade Pal. :50cal:

Sorry for the sarcasm, I just felt like stirring it up a bit...:p

no problem, and I certainly won't be pointing any 50BMG's in your direction any time soon either!!!
I had 2 guys that froze their arses off waiting for me to finish shooting that afternoon. (they didn't dress nearly as warmly as I did!)
In all honesty, doing what I did to attain those groups, probably any decent rifle could do that. I have lots of 1moa guns, so grouping 10 slowly, firing single shot, in freezing air, with a leadsled weighed down with 50 lbs of lead shot, using a 24x scope doesn't seem that hard really. It loves the 45 grain white box .223 ammo. I haven't been able to reload ammo to beat the white box stuff............:( All my other shooting with this Abolt , using at least 8 different types of bullets so far, group no better than 1" with 5 shots.)
I can see how disbelief could be in order when some arsehole (me)comes online stating he can hit a .85" Ten-shot group with factory ammo, unless he comes clean, and states he can't do it with any other factory ammo, or his OWN BEST PERSONAL RELOADS.
