.223 Whitetail factory load Help

The 64 gr. PP laod from Winchester does well. The bullet doesn't hold up as well at .22-250 velocities, but mushrooms like a big game bullet at .223 velocities. Thsi is info from a source I trust and respect. Would it be my go to bambi snuffer? No. Would it do the job- I'd wager yes.
 
A .223 with a proper bullet will kill a deer when everything is perfect, but why bother using a gopher/coyote gun? You owe it to the animals you hunt to use the most effective and humane methods you can. What's stopping you from using a larger, far more lethal caliber? A local butcher finds the remains of .22 centerfire jacketed bullets in moose, elk and deer carcasses each year from careless individuals who use their coyote rifle for big game.

If the Inuit people up north take down caribou, polar bear and the likes with a .223, why couldnt a guy shoot a whitetail?
I personally wouldnt take a .223 for a trophy buck hunt but to cull some does I wouldnt hesitate. I wouldnt use any bullet other then a Barnes as others have mentioned.

"...75 gr hollow point..." That is most likely a varmint bullet and is totally unsuitable for deer sized game. Varmint bullets are made to expand rapidly upon impact with little penetration.
 
I wouldn't consider a .223 and effective deer calibre, but smaller calibres have brught down larger animals. Stay away from varminter HP's - Something like Remington or Winchester 55 gr PSP is a good start, or spend the money on the all copper triple shocks from Barnes.
