.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, chupacabra, elk, walrus and moose. is a thread over on US forum Rokslide that contains everything you ever could imagine wanting to know about the lethality of .223 on game.
I've followed the thread for the past few years and recently both grizzly and walrus are claimed to have been taken cleanly.
It makes peoples heads explode and provides endless hours of entertainment.
If confronted by a chupacabra, charging or otherwise, its hard to argue againsnt 77gr TMK, 80 or 88gr ELDM.
But 65gr SP would probably work.
Wouldn't feel bad to take a shot at big game with the others. At all. Didn't used to hold that opinion but its really something, what repeatedly seeing evidence can do haha.

I was part of a hog slaughter when the owner used a 22 long to put his pigs down. What ensued was a full on rodeo and the worst killing job I have ever witnessed. Was it the 22’s fault the bullet didn’t find home? …. Not at all, many pigs are killed every year with one. I do believe that the percussive damage from a larger rifle would have provided a lights out scenario.
I always think about that experience when asked if a smaller cartridge can be used for bigger game.
