.223 with detach mag recomendations

First thought was a Savage edge/axis, but you said no scope next thought is a Ruger mini 14. You could always have a gunsmith install iron sights on the Savage, a Williams peep that bolts onto the rear scope base holes and a bolt on front ramp.

I have a CZ527 and its one of my absolute fave rifles. Have 2 CZs already and there may be more. Accurate, reliable, and very nice to look at. The CZ527 is a Minimauser action and weighs in the same weight as my 22 lr so its a nice carry.

Mini-14? Or depending on how gun-owner friendly our new Conservative overlords are, maybe an AR-15 in a few months .

Only one gun you need look at, CZ527, FS or Lux for iron sights. Best mag in the business, all steel, and one of the best actions. Even the barrel's on them are among the best for sale, cold hammer forged.

Wait and see if an AR-15 becomes a possibility for us. According to the folks at Shooting USA, the AR-15 has become the most popular sporting rifle platform down there. If not, there's always the Mini-14 or the small action CZ if you prefer a bolt gun.

I would say find an older savage 340. They came in 222, or 223 and have iron sights, detach mags, and you will not cry if its bouncing around in the back of a tractor and gets scratched...

I would say get yourself a CZ 527, I own one with the FS, of coarse if it is bouncing around in the back of a tractor I don't know how long it would last.

Ah, I thought I missed somthing.
Nope just a lot of guys dreaming out loud me included...
There will be no reclassification until we push for it and as of now that hasn't been happening on the levels that it needs too be done at.
Not saying it isn't going to happen just saying its not in the cards right now...
