I'm considering the purchase of a 223 WSSM Varmint Stalker and would like to hear from other 223 WSSM owners regarding group size and volocity they have acheived. Its either the 223 WSSM or a 220 Swift....so I need to hear the scoop.

Thanks

I dont see how you can go wrong with the WSSM. Its brand new!, chrome lined barrels!, super velocity!, short fat powder column!, its new!

also available in Abolt rifles, another plus!

Here's a 300 yard group (not mine) from a Browning .223 WSSM, using factory Winchester premium ammo, in the field, rested on a backpack. Not too shabby.

I have a Rem Model 7 rebarreled with a 22" stainless Krieger barrel by SC Gunworks in Markham. It shoots like a dream with factory ammo (1/2" @ 100), but I have no chrono so can't tell the velocity. From what I've been able to find out, factory ammo is pretty hot, and my meager handloading skills can't even match factory groups, much less better them, so I just use the storebought stuff. The barrel is not a heavyweight and heats up quickly.
I also don't use the gun nearly as much as I thought that I would because the barrel life issue is really playing mindgames with me, so I find myself counting my shots verrrry carefully. It is also LOUD. Not loud, LOUD.

In hindsight, I should have stuck with a .223 or .22-250. I have no experience with the Swift, but the .22-250 in particular serves all my coyote hunting needs. The WSSM was just a cool new toy...and that's a plenty good enough reason.

223 wssm

If it shoots, you'll never regret it.
I have one in the super shadow and my cousin has one in an A-bolt with the Boss system. His will shoot clovers at 200 with a 3200 3-9X50.
Once I get a "good" scope, I'm expecting similar groups. I've got a fixed 6x target scope at the moment and am working on some loads.
I've heard of a few going back because they wouldn't group. Both Win and Browning. With the chrome lined barrels, they say you can get 1750+ rounds out of it vs ~800 out of a 250 but time will tell.
Despite the fact that the market seems to have rejected it, I'm happy with mine and wouldn't trade it for a 250 or definately a 220.
Let me know how it works out for you!

New scope, same issues

So not to eat my words but I put a 24x scope on my Super shadow and still having grouping issues. I'm going to try some match bullets and if it doesn't tighten up, she's going back!
