223 WSSM questions

Good morning all,

New to reloading the 223WSSM I have just bought the Lyman 49th as it has 223wssm data but in reading the articles and seeing the listed types of powders I see the data goes to both extremes of the powder lines. I am an IMR powder kind of guy and have seen everything from the slow stuff IMR4350 then pop over to the other side of the house with the faster stuff IMR4227 IMR 4895. Would like to put a load togehter for both 55gr FMJ and some of those 55FMJ surplus tracers that were sold awhile ago. Which way did you folks lean to when it came to powders slow burner or zippy fast?
 
I just did a search on 223 wssm on this site cause I'm looking for info too. I've got a Win M 70 that seems to like 49.5 gr IMR 4350 under a 50gr nosler ballistic tip OAL 2.333. My chroney is screwed so I don't know the velocity but apparently it's around 4000. After I clean the barrell the first round is always a flier. I think I'll use this for yotes this winter.
 
The 223 wssm must be huge compared to the 22-250. I put 37 gr of varget over a 50 gr ballistic silver tip in the 22-250. What kind of a twist rate do you guys have on your rifles?

After a bit of research I found a chart on the browning website. It shows the barrel life of the 22-250 vs 223wssm. I says the 223wssm will last for 1500 rounds where as the 22-250 will only get 1000. Very surprising considering the 223 wssm is faster and uses the same bullets.

Only 1,000 rounds for the 22-250, eh? I expect more than a few 22-250 shooters would dispute that estimate.
 
I would say a 22-250 with the barrel shot out in a 1000 rounds has suffered a high rate of fire of a hot round.with little chance to cool.I have one and expect to get 2000 to 2500 rounds. I don't load it hot and I don't over heat the barrel .had a look at the velocities for the 223 wssm .I was pleasantly surprized at the plus 3700 fts speeds. whats recoil like in the 223wssm.

If you read a bit more on the browning website, you'll see that the rifles they USED to sell had barrels that where chrome plated. It's impossible to compare that way : chrome plated barrel for 223 wssm and regular barrel for 22-250. I bet a 22-250 with a chrome plate barrel would outlast the 223 wssm by far.

Also, Browning discontiuned their 223 and 243 wssm calibers as far as I checked (can't find that caliber on their website).

I found the calibers interesting, specially with the flattering review in Lyman's, but I guess I might look more at 6mm br ? If I choose to go that way (long far shots)
