.223 wylde... any opinions?

I recommend you read this thread and draw the conclusion yourself. or you're just gunna open a massive can of worms all over again

.223 wylde is the "in between" chamber that can safely fire both 5.56 and .223

some people think it's safe to interchange 5.56 and .223, some don't. if you're going to be shooting for sure .223 all the time, the wylde chamber in unnecessary for you and I wouldn't go out of my way getting it (though it won't be an issue doing so), if you're going to shoot a lot of 5.56 I say go for it, there are no benefits using the wylde chamber, the only thing is the claim to safely handle 5.56 without being a full blown 5.56 chamber.... or something like that.

(i'm one of the people who have no issues shooting 5.56 in a .223 chamber :stirthepot2:)

I had a rock river heavy barrel in 223 wylde. I occasionally had some 556 ammo but for the most part I only shot 223. It had a 7 twist barrel which was nice for heavier bullets but other than that I haven't noticed anything special about it over a regular 223.

I had a Gaillard Barrled Sako in 223Wylde was a nice gun, can't really comment on it much other than to say my particular one would fail to fire the odd factory or FL sized round. It's long gone though and don't remember much more about it aside from I got a Rem700 Sendero in 300WM for it lol

I have the reamer and have had several boltguns chambered in it with no problems shooting 5.56 and .223 factory ammo plus handloads since the 1990's.
I also have an Ackley version of it chambered in my varmint gun as I write this.

So you are saying that the 223 rifles should handle the 5.56 with little to no issue straight from the factory? Is there any difference in cartridge length or neck length or even diameter?

I don't have any issues with it.
Not much difference between 5.56/.223 I recommend you read the thread I posted in the 1st reply of this thread.

Thread posted again for your Convieniance

The Wylde is a modified 223 chamber with a long gentle throat to accommodate 75 and 80 gr bullets. This has the side effect of making it real good for military ammo.

Mr. Wylde is a member of this forum, so I have to say nice things about the chamber. I have a reamer and once won a 1000 yd Target Rifle match shooting a 223 with his chamber. 30" barrel, 1:7 with 80gr Sierra MatchKings. 25 gr RL15
