Hey Folks, thinking of getting a 223rem for a dedicated coyote gun.

Would like the following

20 - 22" barrel
70 degree or less bolt lift
DETACHABLE MAG
Lightweight 6.5lbs max.
Accurate
Short action

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you checked out a T 3 Tikka ?
I think that would fit your bill plus they have an 8" twist so a wide range of bullet weights will stabilize.
Mine is more accurate than I anticipated...

I second this, the barrel at 1:8 means you can fire up to 77 grain. Got my hands on Federal Gold Medal w/ SMK 77gr and my first time out with the gun managed 2.5" groups at 200 yards, no ####. Great rifle, and meets all of OP's requirements, I believe.

Sako Finnlight with an 8 or 12 twist, your choice or a browning Xbolt or a Abolt11 if you can find one and budget is a little lower than Sako.

I like tikka's, but would prefer at least a short action

Looking into that CZ527, any suggestions of where a fellow might find one?

Sako' sand the X-bolt certainly are on the list.

I believe that by definition a 223 is a short action vs long action chamberings like 30-06, 300 Win Mag, etc.

I've gotten interested in Savages lately. The varmint rifles are superbly accurate (0.5 MOA and maybe better) and savage actions can be barrel swapped at home so that a 223 action could take short action round from 223 to 308 with only a new barrel and bolt face.

The .223 is a short-action cartridge, but all Tikkas are long-action sized receivers. They put in a spacer for short-action calibers.

(Last I heard, anyways)

You heard correctly. There is also some mode you need to make to the magazine for the heavy bullets. Do a search for the details.

If you want a 527, keep checking the EE, they do come up occasionally. Prophet River or Wolverine could definitely get you one. I have several 527's and they are excellent rifles. Happy Hunting.

Savage rifles are deffinately good and priced well, you just need to make sure you get the right one, axis and model 10 and 12 have changeable barrels, model 25 does not. Even with that, its still all accurate as heck. Cloverleaf my .223 at 100 yrds under my reloads.

The 527 has really gotten my interest. I know nothing about them, but like the features. One question maybe you can answer is which one is the nicest to shoot with a scope. I really like the looks of the LUX but wonder if the stock has to much drop for a good cheek weld?

Go with the American if you are going to scope it. The 527 is actually a mini-mauser action which was built specifically for small rounds like the 22 hornet. Nice and light, very accurate. A perfect walking varminter.
