.223Rem vs. 6.8spc in $$$

I am wanting to buy an XCR soon and I am interested in getting it in 6.8spc for increased power and range but how much of a difference will I have to pay for this rounds compared to .223Rem, average grade ammo? I DO plan to reload but not for months still.

6.8spc is really hard to find by the case in Canada. Possibly the only I found is on CRAFM website, 270$ /200rnd.

At that price I think I'll have to reload my 200 fired case.

I wish I bought it in 7.62x39 and later the 6.8 conversion. Doing the opposite I can't enjoy my XCR much while I wait for the x39 conversion.

6.8 ammo and cases are going to be very difficult to find in Canada and thus expensive. What good is a rifle if you can't find ammo to feed it?

Yea I was wondering how readily available 6.8spc is, doesn't sound like it is much at ALL and its $$$.....reloading would help but I'd wanna build up 1000+ rounds before I started reloading.

Epp's lists ammo. No prices or maker. Doesn't mean they have any either. Runs about $1 per shot Stateside.

For a 1000rnd, probably it would worth it to buy your components in the US (new brass and everything).
I'm not sure if there's export restriction on reloading components.

Let me know how it turn out if you go this way.

As much as I like the stats on the 6.8spc at 19 I can NOT afford that. Gonna have to stick to .223Rem

even state side ammo is hard to find. 1 box found in Great Falls at 34 box (Rem 115gr). I think I'm glad I passed on the one I looked at.

I thought the 6.8 SPC cartridge would be nice as a versatile "ONLY ONE AR" caliber.
And maybe,
down in the US,
where they can get ammo for it and hunt with it,
the 6.8 makes some sense.

BUT,
here in Canuckistan,
it doesn't really work out too well.

After playing around a bit with a very nice brand new RRA 6.8 AR,
and having a LOT of trouble finding 6.8 ammo,
I sold the RRA 6.8 SPC upper, all the 6.8 mags, and 5 boxes of 6.8 ammo.

I kept the RRA lower,
with a really nice match trigger,
and dropped on an LMT 10.5" upper in 5.56/.223.

Then I picked up an AR 10/R25 in .308,
and was back in the game with all my bases covered by the much easier to find ammo for .223 AND .308,
for a LOT less aggravation with trying to find UNOBTAINIUM 6.8 SPC ammo.

If 6.8 ammo was readily available here in the North,
I'd still seriously consider the 6.8 as it is a nice compromise between power and size.
But IMHO, for several reasons too complicated to go into here,
.300 Whisper or 7.62 Russian both might be better choices in an AR.

But as it is now,
I'll stick with my TWO ARs in .223 AND .308.
