It would be illegal to use the .223 WSSM on big game in Alberta, but I know other provinces would allow it. It's got a bit more zip than a .22-250, so it would obviously kill a deer / antelope, but I don't think that it's really ethical to use such light rounds on big game. That's just my opinion though. With a good bullet it would work if the shot is right.

With one of the heavier bullets (60+ gr) you might take a whitetail with it. Personally, the only time you can take out the "other" guns is during deer, bear and moose season so why would you bother. The 223 wssm gets plenty of use 80% of the year here where .22 cal is max outside of large game seasons. Although heckle as you may, I've had an oldtimer tell me a 22-250 will take anything around this neck of the woods (we'll leave it at that!).
