What is the diiference between Hornady Vmax 55gr and Nosler Ballistic Tip spitzers of the same weight? The are both explosive as he11 on critters, yet Noslers are historically more expensive.

Critters won't know whether it's a $20 or $30 box that hit em....shoot the ones that work best in your gun. I love the Hornady 50g V-Max for my 22-250

Noslers aren't my first choice, but WSS was out of 55gr Vmax, and the opportunity didn't present itself to try to P&D.

Just a footnote:

I turned several gophers into something more strainer friendly with them. I still prefer Vmax though.

the noslers have a thicker base, so some of the predator guys swear by them, that they'll give adequate penetration on 'yotes and not just create a shallow 'splash'

For my money, though, I cannot tell the difference between the 40 vmax and 40 ballistic tips.

55 NBT in a 223 will exit a 80 lb wolf on a broadisde shot @ 75 yards, Ive done it. I shot 4 coyotes with that bullet too and couldnt keep a single one inside them on broadside shots.

i agree with todbartell ive used the 40gr nbt in my .223 and had them go right on through the broadside of a coyote with a baseball sized hole on exit at around 70 yards. and the darn thing still got up and ran.
