Anyone have any experience with 225 gr Accubonds in 338 WM for hunting moose? I was wondering if these bullets are up to the task (i.e. for moose hunting) assuming they would perform better than say a ballistic tip.

thanks in advance,

I have stuck a few 200 grain .338 Ballistic Tips through moose without any trouble at all.

I would not worry in the least about the Accubond.

That bullet should be perfect on moose. I used the 200 AB in a 300 Dakota last year and took an animal at 35yds through the lungs no blowups and 2" hole right through, excellent performance.

225gr. Accubond from 160 yd into shoulder hump (shooting from above) retained 82% (185 gr.) and expanded to 0.665" (nearly double). I'd say they work good. But then again, a whole lot of other bullets probably would have worked just as well. ;)

Slightly off topic but I tried Hornady 338 225 gr Interbonds this year in my 338 RUM, the one I shot my moose with at 242 yards was stopped in the spine after a trip up through the front shoulder, it expanded to over .800 and retained 167 gr of weight or 74%. Being of Scottish decent I wanted to try something cheaper than the Noslers and the worked great and are very accurate in my rifle.:D

Silverback, that is good news to me as I too have had good success both accuracy and knock down wise with the accubonds, yet I am now loading up some interbonds. Hopefully I'll have good luck with them in my .338WM, they shine in my 270WSM.

I have seen the Hornady 225 Interlock standard cup and core bullet from my buddy's 338 WM work fine on several moose. Can't imagine that the 225 AB wouldn't do at least as well.
