Well I picked up a Savage 340V in 225 Winchester, now the hard part, Ammo,,, brass and dies? any ideas where to go or how to go about this??Thanks PEter

I have an H&R Ultra swap barrel gun in .225 Win & 7X57R... love this set... bring it when both coyotes and deer are on the menu... which is pretty often. My LGS has new brass... he might have dies also and he will ship, if interested, send me a PM.

I bought two 50pc packages of new 225Win brass two years ago from P&D.
You will be happy with your choice Peter, the cartridge is way ahead of 223Rem, almost as good as 22-250Rem but doesn't burn the barrels! It shines with Win 748 powder in my Sportco 44 rifle with 26" long barrel.

Where you are matters as shipping costs on ammo gets expensive. Kind of suspect any brand of .225 Win ammo or brass will be a special order thing, but your local gun shop can order it for your.
Only Winchester loads it in their Super X brand. 55 grain PSP only. Screams out of the muzzle at 3570 FPS. 3066 at 100. Only drops 9.6" at 300 with a 100 yard zero. Mind you, it's also a seasonal thing.
Most dies are horrendously expensive, but Hornady's aren't too bad, at Midway, Stateside. $44.99US vs $90 plus from the other guys. No Lee dies.
This guy lists brass. Jump eh voo, ya'll. Add the W's. .armesetplus.com/en/reloading/brass/winchester/rifle/wsc225wu-unprimed-brass-rifle-cal-225-win-pkg-50
Epp's lists brass and ammo too. May not be an order thing with them. They're like that. Have stuff nobody else does. Try Shooter's Choice in Waterloo, Ontario as well.

The 225 Winchester, it's good to see there are some nutz out there that use it.
Brass is available and if you are really are really stuck I have some that I can part with.
Recently I have been using Varget when I can find it and it works as well as 4064.
Best of luck with your 225.

David

I have owned several 225 Winchesters over the years. First a Cooey M71, then a Savage 340V, like the O.P.'s.

Later I found a M70 Winchester, but it had a toasted throat, and I sent it on it's way.

I acquired a Savage M11 in 22-250 that was shot out [price was definitely right, lol]
I also had a like new take-off SS Heavy barrel from a 40X Remington 27½" long, originally chambered in 220 Swift.

I sent it all to Guntech, and had him set it back, and chamber it up in 225 Winchester on that M11 action.
Keep in mind, I already had Brass, dies and ammo for the 225, and also had a 220 Swift that works fine.

This 225 is a true sweetheart. It shoots 5 shots into the .2's and .3's at 100 regularly....even factory 55 grain SP ammo is sub-moa.

My pet load is a 50 grain Ballistic Tip, chased by Vihtavuori N540, fired by the WLR primer. 52 grain Speer HP's are nearly as accurate.
At close to 3700 fps, the effect on crows, ground squirrels and the like is dramatic. Coyotes don't like it a bit, either.

The poor old 225 is a bit of an orphan, doesn't get a lot of respect, but it is a great chambering, much like the 22-250 in performance.

Regards, Dave.
