I have some (discontinued) 225grain 8x57mm speer bullets. Data is hard to find. And does anyone know why speer stopped making these 225,s? Was it a bad ballistic match for the mauser cartridge?
Speer dropped a lot of their heavy for caliber bullets (the 275 338 comes to mind). I have data for this at home, but I'm not there for a week or so. I would just use 220 gr data (should be in Sierra or Hornady manuals) and back off 10%, then work slowly up. - dan

Hey Bill, here is what I got out of the 8mm Mauser using big bullets.
220 Sierra ----45 grains IMR 4895-- 2487 fps @ 15 from muzzle.
195 Hornady --46 grains of IMR 4895--2491 fps @15 from muzzle.
This data was safe in my rifle.........
Did a quick check in 'Ken Waters Pet Loads' from the Handloader and there are two loads he has listed using the Speer 225gr RNSP in the 8x57 JS.
- 45gr of IMR 4064 for 2170 f/sec
- 45gr of IMR 4895 for 2245 f/sec
