.22cal revolvers

So, forget about what the "asks" are on the EE for a minute. What's a fair/reasonable price for a S&W .22 revolver in decent "shooter", not collector condition?

If it has some scuffs and holster wear but is mechanically sound with a solid lockup I'd say $500 to $600. As condition gets better figure on that rising to $650.

Keep in mind that it is a K frame, designed for .38 Special loads so it will last forever in .22LR.

Another benefit of the 17s is that they are appreciating in value and you can always get your $ back by selling it.

Thanks for the comments so far. It is all helpfull, but keep them coming.

Can-down asks what I shoot. Well a 45cal smoothbore flintlock, a 44 cal remington pattern revolver, a S&W 586 357/38spec revolver, a Taylors replica of a Schofield revolver in 38spec, plus semi's, a Ruger Mk111, a Beretta 92 9mm.

Lots of experience with different types of revolvers. I wasn't sure if you were new to revolvers but you obviously are familiar with double and single action revolvers.
I think you will like the look and feel of an older (3 screw) pre transfer bar Ruger Single Six.

Asking is the key word. Seller can ask whatever they want....will it get sold....maybe but most likely not unless the one for sale is in prestine condition.

I guess that's one of the weaknesses of the EE. Unlike Ebay you can't search "sold listings" to get an idea of fair market value.

I enjoy my S&W 617-6. It's hefty and rock-solid with the added bonus of a large, interchangeable parts supply with the other S&W guns built on similar frames. So if you want holsters, different sight options, lighter springs, etc. it's easy to source them. I bought a 686 first, but I enjoy shooting my 617 more, even with the cost of ammo set aside.

Plus, the way .22lr's can be finicky with ammo, it's easier to eject and rotate a cartridge that didn't fire the first go around and place it back in the cylinder so it can strike a different part of the rim. Even with cheap ammo it's rare to get a round that wont go off at all in the gun.

Does anyone have any experience wih the NAA mini master or NAA Earl that wanstalls sells? They are small, single action and under $400. Apparently they are getting more Mini Masters in the fall. I'm considering one, or an alfa proj ...

They are cool little guns that are a bit tedious to load, a bit tricky to learn how to hold and shoot well and on the one I tried the rear sights shot a little low for me.

They are meant as a small carry option more then a range gun.
The Alfa will be more fun at the range and easier to shoot well.

I have also recently bought an alfa proj 22lr.
It feels a very strong and well constructed revolver.
Feels good, looks good and will shoot any 22lr ammo you have.

The only issues I have come across so far is a very, very long trigger reset with 4 distinct stages.
Also some of the cylinders can be tight for loading/extracting depending on the ammo manufacturer eg CCI great, Winchester hit and miss.
For me 3 out of 9 cylinders will accept a round but can be difficult extracting them after firing.
A couple of times I have had to tap the extractor rod with my multi-tool to get all the rounds out of the cylinder.

I have only put 100-200 round though it but I am still having fun and the wife prefers this to my gsg 1911.

Well, look at the price on current adds... if it's been bumped a few times, that specific gun is priced 'above' market value... ;)

If you see something you like, there's nothing stopping you from making an offer. The worst that can happen is the seller will say no.

As for a nice single action 22lr... The Uberti does look pretty good (in 6 or 12 shots)

...so the 12 shot is legal in Canada?
