Hey guys~I used to be a pretty enthusiastic airgunner before I got into rimfires. (and shotguns, and varmint-caliber centerfires :) ) However, I find myself on allot of farms in recent years and get asked if I could deal with the pigeons, or try. So, years ago...I bought an Industry Brand QB-79 (fed from a 9oz CO2 bottle) in .22, that had already been modified to shoot a little hotter. I don't own a chronograph, but was told around 600fps. Anyhow, worked great in the summer but being CO2...once the temps drop a bit things get problematic. Ordered some parts from Archer in the US and had the gun upgraded to shoot HPA from 3000psi Ninja bottles. No issues with cold weather now, but even with 2 bottles...not enough juice for the amount of shooting I often do. Back to the dive shop to re-fill, etc. SO....I'm seriously considering going back to a springer, but have never owned one in .22. I do know they're not the ideal cold weather gun, but it's rarely completely exposed/outside and even if it is...maybe 10-15 minutes before it's back in the car.

What gun to get?

Most shots are 25 yards +/-, most of them shooting upwards to sitting pigeons inside barns/hay lofts, etc. A 22cal pellet (no matter the weight/type) traveling over 400fps is good medicine for pigeons at those distances, and a small/light gun is handier than a big magnum springer. Idea is to anchor the pigeon, and not leave pin holes in tin roofs! :) I'm leaning towards a Diana 24 in 22cal. Price isn't a huge issue, but I just have no interest in HPA/PCP and all the fuss that comes with it. Any options I should consider that are better -500fps springers for the $? I'd honestly rather get a Crosman 1322 pumper and wear my right arm out than get involved in air bottles, pumps, regulators, etc.

Thanks for taking a moment to consider. My QB may be on the blocks...

PS... I know I can get a larger bottle on the QB and feed by hose remotely, however, barns aren't always the easiest places to navigate, and light is usually poor. Simple gear to shoot from improvised rests (to put it mildly) rules. Fussy/bulky gear that can get hung-up, the "crack" of pneumatic guns~less ideal.

Try throwing a beer cozie and a chemical hand warmer on a CO2 bottle, I've found it to works pretty good in moderately cold temps.

I may just be a terrible shot but I find springers have a weird recoil impulse that can throw your shot off if you aren't holding it just right.

The HW 35 is a very nice springer which is why it has been made for as long as it has. .22 velocity around 575fps.
If you are fine with the velocity...you will be more than happy with everything else! And expect a long life.

The Walther Terrus .22cal also gets good reviews and is in the same price category. I'm also trying to decide what to get!

I just used an old Slavia 620 in 177 cal years ago to knock pigeons down in a friends barn . 490fps ?? I walked out with 2 shopping bags full and gave them to a buddys Father . he cooked them up . I would just buy a nice one shot springer and be done with it . happy hunting.

cheapest 10m accuracy/value way to go would be a Crossman phantom .22 when they go onsale for $89 at TSC or Craptire. lots of mods available. Or just buy a Diana or NOT a spinger unless you know how to shoot them...

I killed hundreds of pigeons with my .177 Ruger Air Hawk.... 455fps with lead hourglass shaped pellets. If your shooting them I are barn or Arena you do not want to send rounds thru the roof.

Put out a small bin with grain soaked in vodka if your a bad shot or want to just pick em off easy. Otherwise they will fly around after you kill 3 or 4 of them. My air rifle is the most effective firearm that I own lol. Mine was $159 with a scope about 12 years ago and I think there still a out the same.

I'm surprised Archer sent anything to Canada as they refused to when I asked a year ago about parts.....I like a .22 RWS 34 or my HW80K /.22 for pigeons the latter with JSB Predators also my grouse pellet...a flashlight and a -500fps custom 2240 works wonders in attics and barns after dark...Harold
