22hornet

....use the .22 K-Hornet!!!...for better accuracy!, longer lasting brass!...it beats the standard Hornet by a mile!!!!......

Yep, K-hornet is the way to go if you reload. You can still shoot regular hornet ammo in it (not all that great).

Be cautious with the Ruger 77/22 Hornet. SOME of them have poor accuracy, mainly because the bolts have excessive headspace. The bolts lockup from the rear unlike most centerfire cartridges that lockup at the front. I am just going to start playing and shimming mine to get it shooting better.

Would I get rid of a 22 Hornet? Nope, never. Been eying one of the Cooper Rifles in 22 K-Hornet.

If you reload for the Hornet, polish the inside of your full length resizing dies with Flitz or JB on a bore mop in a cordless drill. It will help make reloading smoother and prevent crumpling the thin cases.

Ammo cost at LeBaron is $38/50 for Win Super X

Hornets can be fussy to reload, I have had by far the best success using the Lee collet type neck size dies. You can load a Hornet for less than the cost of .22 WMR ammo. I'd never part with my Anschutz 1433.

all good points...but remember....the 221 Fireball is what the Hornet could have been had it stayed in school......:)...I've had a couple Hornets and a K'd version....now have a 221FB and can't see going backwards to a Hornet...

It has all the power and distance I need. I wanted something for skunk, raccoon, porcupine, and groundhog. The ones I can see are not far away.

I can see why it became popular in the 1930's. A few manufacturers keep chambering for it. I am not going to wildcat mine. :D
