.22LR/.17HMR Rifle Scope for CZ 455 American

I wanted a cheap scope for my 452 and tried a Cabelas.
It came with a bag of turrets for a couple of rimfire cartridges- I only have 17HMR and don't dial up.
I zeroed it and its been working great ever since.
Like everything what you spend on a scope depends on your usage, budget and personality.
Having nothing for recoil definitely opens the door of possibilities- depending your usage.

Yah that would be my luck.I'm not buying rifles or scopes online anymore.Too much hassel if there is a problem.I went with the APT originally from the recomendations on here. After the dissapointment I went to Grouse river and paid $319 for the Vortex and yes its probably made in the Phillipines although it says nothing on the box.At the very least Vortex stands behind their products. If you don't believe me go into Muellers site and read their warranty fine print ,has lots of lop holes to deny warranty.

Crossfire scopes are made in China.

I would go with Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 Nikoplex. The reason I wouldn't go with BDC is that most rim fire scopes with BDC are calibrated for 22lr so it would defeat the purpose to put it on your 17HmR. Also, BDC is essentially useless unless your shooting with your scope at full power (unless you have a scope with a first focal plane which usually go for over $1000).

Nikon has the best optics for the dollar value and warranty services are great. I believe they are located in Mississauga so if you are close by, it's a plus!

I have a Bushy Trophy 4-12x40mm with the DOA reticle, on a cz452 varmint. I love it for target shooting! Haven't tried it on critters yet. Should be around your $250 limit.

Also I'll second it..... Nikon is probably the best glass/dollar available. Only have one so far, a Prostaff5 3.5-14x50mm. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Our BDC is fully customizable using our Spot On application free on our website, check it out. We can give you the drops for any rimfire, centerfire, muzzle load, shot gun or crossbow bolt printed out on a 3x3 card. Unlike a lot of ballistic calculators we have the yardages for every magnification, not just max and we've got in the neighbourhood of 5400 loads pre-built into the program so you don't have to go look it up.

However we do make a 3-9x40 BDC rimfire and they are out there in the marketplace which has 50 yard parallax instead of the 100 of the centerfire version. That can be handy at shorter ranges. Any other questions I'm happy to help!

I just got my scope rings for my CZ455 yestarday. I boresighted it at home and tomorow will be on the range for zeroing.
As a scope I am using Vortex Diambck 4x12 which I took off from another rifle. My plan is to zero the gun at 50yards starting with 22lr, then I will continue with .17hmr at 50y and 100y. Now the differences in drop between 22lr and 0.17 at 50y are negligible. So are the differences in drop from 50y to 100y on 0.17hmr. Moral of the story:
You use 22lr for shots up to 50y and the 0.17 for up to 100y shoots. In this way you dont have to mess with calculating drops, as a matter of fact you dont need a scope with BDC recticle at all, unless you are planning 50+yard shoots with 22lr.

I think a BDC reticle is an advantage when shooting a 22lr, especially when shooting at 25,50,75 and 100 as with steel chickens

I was yesterday in range. My calculations were made under the assumption that the POI will not change after a barrel swap. Actually it changed - A LOT.
I zeroed the scope at 50y starting with 22lr and changed the barrel. With 17hmr at 50y I was not in paper anymore. Tried at 30y and realized I was 3" high.... made the corrections and continued with 0.17 to 50y and 100y. I will try again with a torque screwdriver and see if I can get a consistent difference on POI after a barrel change. If yes, the gun can be used after making the necessary corrections on the scope. If not, having two barrels which needs to be zeroed after every swap is kind of useless.

p.s. rhino you are right. If you shoot 22lr beyond 50y then the BDC is an advantage, from 0 - 50y not.

Thanks everyone for their input...

Almost been half a year since the last post. Not to resurrect this thread, but thought I'd give you all an update.
I had waited over 6 months for the CZ 455 American combo rifle (it was backordered) and it is finally arriving tomorrow along with a Sig.
With doing extensive research on the glass, I have settled on a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP MRAD.

Yes, quite the jump from my initial post of $250!!!

I think over the past 6 months I had a lot of time to research while I waited for the rifle and learned quite a bit of what I was looking for.
Now I have to find someone willing to sell theirs because there's no way in hell I'm paying for a brand new one at over $1200!
I really hope this scope hunting won't take 6 months like my rifle did.

Thank you all again for your input and I apologize for my lack of involvement in my own thread. It's been a busy year for me, but can't complain because it allowed me to get a Sig and CZ 455 American as my first firearms.

It's like Christmas Eve for me atm, can't wait until tomorrow!

Cheers,

Nathan J
