Eley hollow point slaps hard. No fliers in that ammo. Shoots tight
Need to try some of that lapua Hv also

Same here. I made the mistake of using some HP ammo on a grouse once... Not a pleasant resultI have used standard round nose .22 short, long, and lr for years on Prairie Chicken and Ruffed Grouse. I definitely don’t use hollow points.
I bought some of the segmented hp recently, and they shot fairly well in my CZ 452 Varmint. I fired two separate 10 shot groups and while they weren't the most accurate ones I've fired, they were more than accurate enough for my varmint hunting. The first group would have averaged about 1.2" MOA center to center, although the second group had a couple that expanded grouping (1.7" C to C). I plan to do some more testing with them40gr cci mini mag segmented hollow point
For accuracy try cci standard vel or federal auto match
Light bullets I'd avoid unless my barrel has a slow twist rate and doesn't like 40gr
I use Eley Subsonic HP on grouse. Head shots are perfect (455 with a bull barrel)Same here. I made the mistake of using some HP ammo on a grouse once... Not a pleasant result
What length is the bull barrel on your 455? I've mulled taking the 452 out grouse hunting, but it's a lot heavier than my synthetic 457I use Eley Subsonic HP on grouse. Head shots are perfect (455 with a bull barrel)

Ah, that makes sense. I did more road hunting than ever before last year, but I do prefer a little walk through the bush trails, and those heavy barrels do definitely make a difference over a few miles. Perfect for the gopher fields though!20" fluted. It is heavy even fluted.... was originally on a thumb hole varmint rifle but I did a 17HMR barrel swap.
We road hunt so - jump out of truck and take the shot, then move on. Carrying it around in the woods would get old.
That's why I like them 16.5" barrels. I usually carry my mark 2 fvsr instead of my cz 452. Just nice and lightAh, that makes sense. I haven't chronographed any but I did shoot my little 22lr spinner gong with it once (shot it thousands of times with various cheap bulk 22) and one velocitor bent the largest gong of the three very obviously.Has anyone here gotten anywhere close to the advertised velocity for Velocitors? I have tried barrels from 12.5" to 26" and can't beat 1250ish fps. I used to think they were cool until I found out they are slower than plain 40grn Mini-Mags and don't shoot as well either.
I'm not really sure "22lr' and "hard hitting" go hand in handWondering what's a hard hitting 22lr round you use nowadays.
