22LR ammunition

Very suspicious question from a "newbie"...didn't even see the sponsor's ads above the OP.
Someone once asked what my sig line meant. I will add your post to the explanation. BTW the "newbie" joined CGN in 2016.

You're not really saving much with 'cheap' ammunition since the decent stuff really isn't all that much more. (Literally a difference of 2 to 3 cents per shot.). Better ammo means better shooting, and you'll be surprised how well a .22 can shoot with proper ammunition fed into it. If you're looking on improving your shooting skills, its in your interest to have ammunition that can group consistently so you can better judge your progress.

CCI SV's in bulk is always a solid bet as mentioned, I do a fair bit of 'long range' shooting with CCI standards with reasonable success. Though depending on local deals you can find some 'cheap' stuff on the shelves if you're lucky. Got a shop my way that sells Federal .22 'Range Packs' that my nephews love to burn through during our outings when accuracy and distance isn't really in mind.

What kind of .22 rifle are you running, and what are you looking to do with it? Plenty of folks here would be happy to steer you towards some brands of ammo that'll work with your gun

Do you think I didn't know that? Did you see the quotation marks? Try reading it again, maybe it will help you understand it better. It's suspicious when someone who's been a member for so long doesn't know how to click on the sponsors and find what the ammo price is and that's why I wrote "newbie". Thank you for flying off the handle, you should take your advice and add your post to your signature, it is a perfect match.

Like quality or cheapest?
That would depend on what you want it for; lots of crap ammo such as bucket of bullets, BYO bullets, Thunder Turds etc.

May not run all that well, but cheaper than center X for mag-dumps when you don't care if you are on paper or not.

Cheapest 22 ammo I am personally willing to purchase is CCI Blazer and Standard Velocity. Both function perfectly with satisfactory accuracy in most if not all my firearms.

Federal AutoMatch works well additionally. But any cost saving with it over the above CCI offerings I find is not worth it as the CCI Is ever so slightly more reliable and accurate. It would be my go to ammo ONLY if I cannot find Blazer or SV at a reasonable price.

For competition ammo i can’t justify the higher end ammo for my skill level and run either SK Standard + or RWS Rifle Match at about $11/50.

I keep hearing Winchester sucks but of it's older stock they are pretty good
I keep hearing that part of the fun of a .22lr is finding out what kind of ammo it likes.... while their are different levels of quality as you go up in price, some guns will shoot some ammo better then others including bulk.

That's most likely why you get one guy saying he likes cheap Winchester and another saying it sucks.

Then there are the lot number people who find a good batch within a particular flavour.

And whats wrong with asking where the best price for this? Then clicking 60 links.

Till recently I was getting Eley Sport for 5$ at a non sponsor.

I would run a search first instead of asking strangers to do it for me because I'm lazy. Then I could ask something like: "found ammo at $5 at this store, anyone knows a better deal?" The way you were raised matters. Or you can be an azzhole.

CGN search kind of sucks. I was looking for something ( recent) and was getting stuff from several years ago.

And we all know 2 years ago prices are not the same as todays.

I’m glad guys don’t like Winny ammo. Works just fine in my 457. Has higher velocity than advertised. Sadly local source is outta stock right now

I meant search on the site sponsors' websites not a CGN search since CGN does not sell ammo. Hope this clarifies it.

I was getting the same stuff - green box. Nice for the price.

Cheaper per round than the bucket of bullets on the next shelf down! 🤷

I have found that my savage mark II heavy barrel likes CCI Blazer but try a few different ones and figure out what your rifle likes the most. Usually the federal ammo is cheapest but I find it doesn't shoot nearly as well as CCI so it's worth the extra penny per round. there are online sites that you can get ammo for cheap but I would strongly recommend checking the local stores around you; sometimes they have really good prices

I have found federal bulk runs well in my .22’s..I have cci minimags for my .22 pistol..prefers the higher velocity..everything hates whitebox..shame..got around 10.000 rounds of it..lol
