22LR AR15 "Trainers" ?

Yes they do - Black Dog mags will fit most 22 lr AR's and are legal in all 22 lr AR's. Have you considered reloading, and shooting 223? Murray Charlton is selling Dillon gear now you know, brass is cheap etc. 55 grain 223 should come in around 33 cents with fresh brass and 25 cents after the cost of brass is absorbed

Unfortunately, reloading is not in the cards for me right now. No time to do it properly, and really no available room in the garage. Do the Black Dog mags work with the bolt hold open on the M&P 15-22?

I don't know about the hold open, I don't see why they wouldn't - it's more a function of the bolt catch than the mag, generally speaking. I'm sure someone here is running them though. I hear you on the time and space for reloading - I learned to love the MFS 9mm, soooooooo easy - didn't have to waste 30 minutes picking up brass either.

The only Black Dog magazine that will work on the S&W M&P 15-22 is the 50 round drum

hmm.....

I think I bought 'em at Questar (where I got the drums) and they look exactly like the BDM 22LR mags that are for the AR 22LR (CMMG) conversion...... I sold my CMMG 22 conversion after I bought the M&P, so for awhile there I had both types of mags and a couple of times I got them mixed up as they look exactly the same, except for a wee little bit that sticks out on the rear of the mag (thats the bit that trips the BHO). When the mags are loaded you have to pick up the mag and look at it to see what one you have. That is actually one of the prime reasons I sold the CMMG conversion, the mags wern't interchangeable and they looked so much alike it was hard to tell them apart.

If memory serves there is no manufactures name on the mags. Black body, orangie-red(ish) follower, it says 22 LR on them and thats it.

I had a look at Questar's web site and they don't list an aftermarket 15-22 mag other than the drum.....

I'll try to dig em out and take pics tomorrow, but it's not looking to good... I have already been informed that "we" have plans. We recently moved and they are still packed up in one of 20 or so boxes......

_OX_, just noticed that you are in the OK valley. If you are near Summerland, could we get together to see your AR 22 LR stuff.

I am interested in something that mimics the centerfire AR as much as possible and a dedicated upper sounds about right.
