22lr at 500yrds

From the few shots I could see impact, the "group" was many times larger then the target... which is certainly not small. I couldn't tell if he hit the gong???

So this is the problem with cheap ammo.... a ton of dispersion.

But it gets the point across that rimfire at very long distances, is no problem. You just have to get out and try.

Haha oh boy.....This Sunday (small)Toolman and Icedragonmx are joining me at my place for some long range RF shooting....I think we'll have to stretch this out even more than discussed. I have some 1/8" steel at the shop, I'll try and whip up a gong for distance.

Try for something bigger than a 8" plate. Played at the beach and was doing shots at 620yards and did not connect once with the 22lr after 20 rounds. Ran out of mils and holdover for that try. Using a March 3-24x52 in a 28moa mount. 21mils of travel and 15mils in the reticle was not even close. Was down to 5x on the scope. Needed 149moa of up for that distance. Was fun regardless  Did get a cold bore first round hit with the Coyote in 308 at that distance. Orange arrow to show location of the plate.

3 weeks ago we were shooting at a 8" plate @ 620 yards with our 22's. I had 43 moa plus all the reticule had to offer just to get there.....no hits but I think with more time and luck we may get there. Icedragonmx was shooting at it as well and he was all around it. After that the 8" plate @ 300 seemed easy.

22lr at distance = big fun.

Next time we put the plate close to the water so we can see the near misses better! That was fun :)

From his comments the 500 yard target is 30 inches.

Brownells and Sinclair offer tapered picatinny risers in 10, 20, and 30 MOA. These risers attach to tapered bases to increase range of scope. Used a 30 MOA riser with 25 MOA Near base and 25 MOA Near Alphamount under Mark4 16X Leupold (140 MOA) to take a 308W and 155 gr bullet to a mile. With all that taper on bases still had to use a branch above target to make hits. Great fun!

I shoot 200 yards with a Savage MKII. Its challenging. 500 yards I would think would be next to impossible. It would be more frustrating than fun.

Cripes, for 400 usd. .. I think I would be reverse engineering and making my own. Really fancy the idea however. Can they even be sourced in Canada? I found no links

By the time I cobbled together a home made unit I think I could probably go to work for the same amount of time and buy 2 units from down south..... :)
I'm guessing that direct sales is the only option.... not sure if rails are easy to export or not?

I routinely shoot my savage tr out to 200 yds. Without a 20 moa rail I can just hit zero using my max hold overs and all my up travel on my vortex cross fire ii 6-24 x 50 BDC. That's using cci mini mag 36g. The 40g drop too much my best 10 shot group at 200 yds is 3.2".300 yds would require a rail.SV ammo has way too much drop.500 yds would be like firing a mortar with even the hyper velocity ammo.
