.22lr CHEAP optics ??

y'know , for years , the classic 22 was nothing more than a bushnell 4x20 or 3x7 x20 if you had more bucks- the ones with the funny claw mount that mounted to the dovetail- sometimes you got it as a package' someties it cost you 20 bucks- it was the cheapest busnell you could get- tasco makes a similar air rifle scope- between them, those scopes have accounted for thousands of gophers
as for nc star being junk, all i can say is i've got a 2.5 mounted to a 44 redhawk, and it's still working after 5 years- so much for "junk"

well at that price your not talkin cheap
Bushnell and BSA or Simmons all well in that area
However i have 4 fitco scopes and have had no issues except
on my SKS which i find has issues holding zero
So in short for high caliber serious recoil sure think twice but for 22
Fitco's work for me
Just my 2 cents

t-star,

That is exactly what most of us used for years, and they worked fine.

As for your NC Star, will not contend with you at all about that, other than to say you are literally one in a hundred with such experience. :)

Seriously, a Redhawk 44 mag generates a mitt-full of recoil. I have never heard of an NC being able to handle recoil at all. I know of 223 and 243 rifles destroying them. I suspect it may be because yours is a fixed power. That certainly helps.

Best,
Ted

I've never tried NC star scopes but I did try their rings and bases, what complete utter junk. I have a 10/22 base right now that is going in the garbage.. Not worth the postage to send it back. If they can't build basic hardware I can't imagine what their scope internals are like.
150 would get you a pretty nice simmons, one of their better models

I would buy an older Bushnell Banner, one that is made by Bausch and Lomb.
These are made in Japan, have BL in an oval underneath close to the front of the eyepiece. They are typically $50 to $70 for a decent one at gunshows and can be found here on equipment exchange.

let you in on something- i PHONED ncstar tech support direct, told him what i wanted , and he set the whole works up for me;appreciated the fact that i was in canada and couldn't send it back if i wanted; when i told him what the app was , he said there was only ONE model that was applicable, and that was one with an ETCHED reticule - ie no wires - everything else would break due to the recoil- i also happened to mention the fact that i worked in a camera lens service centre( wild) and knew what to look for

Bushnell makes a rimfire scope. 50$ and should last forever on a .22. cheap red dot, Tasco makes a 50$ dollar red dot as well, probably would have to change the mounts though depending on you rifle.

Simmons. Ive had a cheap Simmons on my .22 for years and still works fine. But you can't go wrong with a japanese made bushnell or an old texas Weaver. I've got a cheap fitco on my SKS thats worked fine for years too. My NCstar gave up the ghost though after the M305 had a go with it
