22lr DA Revolver

Wonder what was wrong with your H&R?

Had two of those over the years (a 949 and a top that I can't remember the model #)... Both of them were nice shooters, double action was nothing to write home about but the single action was nice/crisp... never actually benched them, but grouping at 20Y were pretty much the same as with any other 22lr revolver.

Should probably have kept the top-break. Ho well, I'm sure I'll stumble across another nice one eventually.
On the plus side, the also can be had for not much $

Don't pass on a nice one, for the right price. They are interesting and well made revolvers. Just don't expect Smith like performance from it.

Everyone should have one top break in their revolver collection, why not make it a 22lr.

I do believe BCRider has one. Perhaps he can comment on his experience with the Sportsman.

I am not familiar with this revolvers at all.

What would be fair price for top break H&R in

1. VG condition?
2. EXC condition?

$400 should get you a really nice one. $200 should get you a functional gun. Remember, these things are out of production. Parts will be hard to find as will gunsmiths willing to tinker with them.

My advice is find a nice Smith 17 or if you can afford one a 617. 17's are great, but 6 shot 22's get boring. I'm looking to upgrade my 17 to a 617 when the right situation presents it self. Then, 10 shots per cylinder, YES!

Once I find Smith & Wesson mod 17 with top break... I will buy another one. ;)

Mine is blued, with target trigger and hammer, recessed chambers, I would not consider that buying present production mod 617 would be an upgrade for me. :yingyang:

I think I sold mine for $200-$250 in VG... Oddly enough, the ones I've seen were either in VG+ condition or they were well used and abused pistol. There doesn't seem to be any in between .

plmnkoqaz, probably should have asked sooner, but are you 12(6)? There's some pretty darn good deal to be had on S&W M34...

No...just $$. btw what do you mean by "upgrading" to a 617?

A nice 17 goes for $600ish and new 617 goes for $900. Upgrade? I am aware that the 60's/70's/80's? production guns are a step ahead of the new Smiths quality and fit wise. If some one was willing to trade a 617 for a 17 (with some cash exchanged), I would be interested.

My 17-4 triple T's will probably be up for sale in a short while:)

Sounds interesting....but what do these numbers(-4) and letters(triple T's) represent? I have lots to learn about "old" DA revolvers.
If you're serious about selling it PM me with the details. (I'm in the market) Pictures and price would help.

Tripe T's ...Target grip, Target Hammer, Target trigger (Google is your friend)

Accuracy Plus in Peterborough...
Rick

I checked out their site. They have some older unique firearms. I made a fair offer on a used HG. They wanted full asking price plus $40 shipping from Peterborough to Toronto. I'm re-evaluting my options....
