.22lr expected accuracy at 150yard + ?

All I have on it now is a bushnell tactical 10x40, definitely could use more magnification but I can't see putting more of a scope than that on this rifle, I'll get a good one for the .260 though.

I use at least a 32 to 36 power scope, currently 32, optics make all the difference.

You definately said it right! Just in the process of getting a new scope for my 10/22 which will be either a Sightron SIII 8-32 X 56 LRMOA
or a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 X 50 Tactical

Why would I say they were shot at the distance if they were not??
I started shooting rimfire at 8, and am now 65+
I love rimfires, and own 18 at present.

While I have shot enough targets like this to believe that it is repeatable, the
22LR is so sensitive to even a zephyr of a breeze, that it is quite
challenging to shoot these very small groups, time and again.
One very quiet morning, I shot 3 out of 5 groups that were 1 moa or less
at 200. Another time, I managed only one out of 5. Some times, there are none.

Keep in mind these were shot with a 40X Remington and a Suhl 150, using
Eley Match EPS Ammo of a specific lot that the rifles shoot best with.

When someone posts stellar results, using bulk ammo, I always regard it
with some scepticism, since I have shot many brands of bulk ammo, and
the flyers will get you, time and again.

Regards, Eagleye.

Well said. I enjoy 22LR more than any other round. I also spend most of my shooting time with them. I own more then 40 22LRs and only a few of mine would shoot this well and wouldn't do it unless conditions were right for it. I never get tired of trying though:)

Thanks for posting as you did eagleye. I have no doubts that the 'lowly' .22LR is capable of mighty fine results...if you're shooting quality ammo through a quality gun, the weather (wind) is good and the person behind the gun is having a good day.
I do usually have issues with to common thread that goes like this..."headed to the range the other day with my new $150 Marlin and a brick of Federal Eagle and shot 1/2 MOA all day long".
I only ask that the shooters who are capable of this actually mention the work that goes into getting these groups.
I have an acquaintance (who was a newbie a year ago) who nearly gave up his new hobby of shooting a year ago because he couldn't figure out why his new Marlin XT-22 was shooting 2-3" groups at 100yds with .5 cent ammo when he'd read a couple of posts saying how easy it was to get 1MOA groups.

Using my Remington 541T with Lapua Master L at 100 m., groups were extended due to some breeze.
I did manage some at 1.3 to 1.9. Taking one flyer out of the 10 shot groups made it look a lot better.
At 100 yds. with a CZ 452V, the Lapua gave a 1.1 and CCI MiniMag was 1.9 but only for 5 shots.
My 452 CZ American is being bedded but it showed some impressive groups at 50 yards.
It was torqued to 40 in lbs but the wood swelled and eliminated the free float.

With my ruger 10/22 heavy barreled and a 2.5-10x tasco varmint scope me and a friend were hitting a 3"x3" reseting target at 150 yards without a problem. That was with federal bulk and I'm now switching to CCI Velocitor and am expecting to go out to 250 yards in the next few weeks as these are shooting much flatter and more accurate at 100 yards. I zeroed at 25 yards, shoot one mil dot high at 50 yards, half a mil dot high at 75 yards, back on zero at 100 yards and two mil dots low at 150 yards with the federal.

I would love to be able to find a good supply of Velocitors. They do not exist in Nova Scotia apparently. :(

Well, back from the range, again shooting the old marlin 81. First thing I figured out is that the range I was on last weekend it actually 100yard, somehow I got pretty confused about it, looks longer than the one I knew for sure to be 100 so maybe its an optical illusion between the one that is grass and one that is shale that looked longer. Still ended up with wind, anywhere from 0 to gusts of 30ish at least. Ended up playing with 7 types of ammo, and got some very interesting results. Never managed to keep them in a decent horizontal line.
I should have taken the cleaning kit with me as I did a few other targets after what's below and it was starting to spread. I was playing with the scope a fair bit between each ammo types though to get myself a decent chart of scope settings for each.
Interestingly, the lapua zero at 50yard remains zero at 100yard with the CCI stingers. With the lapua between 50-100 yards I cranked it up exactly 6moa, or 24 clicks? (still learning to used scopes, never had one until this one)

Sighted at 50yards with Lapua match, zeroed the turrets. Bit of an issue is the 10x40 doesn't have a good focus at 50yrd, I think its focused at 100, so I shot that distance seeing 2 horizontal lines much of the time, pita.

So at 50yards, doing 10shot groups, this is measuring the 2 furthest shots apart, in varying winds. I got:

Lapua match, .800".
CCI mini-mag, 1-3/8"
CCI Velocitor, 1-3/16"
CCI Stinger, 1-1/4"
Federal bulk ammo, 1.75" (I got 2 boxes of it mixed, one is new, one is 10yrs old, got 2 that shot an inch lower than the rest and messed up a half decent group)
Winchester 555 bulk, 1-1/8" one 1 went a little off, otherwise it was within 3/4" (I didn't expect that good from this ammo)
Winchester Target 22, worse one of the bunch, 2-1/8".

Then went back to the other 100yard range, groups varied from 5 to 10rounds and in between, and was surprised a bit about some results.

Lapua Match, 6shots in 7/8", one went up 1" above the others.
CCI Mini-mag, 4shots in 3/4", one off again by 1"or so.
CCI Velocitor, 7 shots in 1-1/8, one shot 1.5" off.
CCI Stinger, 7 of them spread out over 2.5".
T22, 555, federal all did around 2.5 to 3" being the worse one(fed)

Did manage 2 other groups at 100yard with the lapua that were right around 1", figured out that I'm throwing some of the random shots sideways(well... 4th time shooting in 9yrs...), and I gotta make a proper set up instead of a couple rocks and towels to rest it on.

Anyhow, sorry about having thought it was a 150yrd range and some of that confusion, definitely gonna be trying it out to 200yrd eventually though.

That makes sense at 100 yards. I bit my tongue after reading the earlier posts.

Still great shooting.
