22lr handgun experience- advice?

They all good but just remember one thing... the so-called-best-gun ain't no good if it don't feel right in your hands. Go to a store or club and feel them. If you can ask members of your gun club to try them, or rent them if available.

Personally I prefer the MarkII since that is what I am used to and started to shoot with, but since they out of production, got a MarkIII. Don't notice the additional features. Actually like the mag release and the tapered bolt better.

I appreciate all the advice. Lots of good points. I'm going to try the feel of a couple and go from there. So far no horror stories, so I guess I go with that. It's funny how the ruger gets quite a few props despite it's low cost and being so common. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I don't get too caught up in opinions on it. Good thing too, or we'd all drive the same vehicle, shoot the same gun, and try to date the same girl/guy.

no, no. No more Rugers, c'mon guys how can you stand those, yuck. Ugly as sin.

Yes, yes, the Rugers can't be much good. They only sold a few the first month or two, then discontinued them. I'll just toss my Ruger .22 pistol collection in a lake somewhere. The first to go will be the first one I bought, a Standard with all 7's and 1's in the serial number. Then I'll toss the 1 in 5000.:rolleyes:

I bought a S & W model 422 about 3 months ago on the EE, and I have to say, its one of the most accurate guns I have ever shot (as far as .22 pistols are concerned) I put it up against sig mosquitos and rugers almost weekly. I usually bury the sigs , and do pretty well against the rugers.
I bought it on a suggestion from my cousin who has had one for 10 years. He said he has shot over 14000 rounds in it since he had it, and it is so reliable and accurate, he has never needed another .22 pistol.
So I bought one, and so far have put 5500 rounds through it (sort of marathon shooting at times) The only problems I ran into with it was when I tried to put the cheap federal econobox .22 stuff through it. It miss fed/fired about every third round, I gave the last half of the box to my buddy, and switched back to the other brands I had in the bag...CCI, Winchester, and eley. Every kind of ammo but the cheap federal shoots almost 498/500 rounds easily in this gun. Get the 6" barrel if you can, the 4.75" barrel isn't as accurate. This is a cheap solution so you can buy even more ammo with the savings. I got mine for 275 shipped.(in nearly new condition)
