Now this is a don't try this at home story. Years back, I tried this very thing. I chambered Remingtons .22 Cyclone LR load in my Savage .22WMR thinking the same thing: .22 S, L, or LR rifles. I knew the bullet diameter difference, but was also aware that CZ rifles have tighter bores. The LR round fired after two strikes from the firing pin in the same spot. The rim is thicker on the magnum round. The bullet fired with no ill effects. I tried this several times and each time the results were the same. Two strikes to fire, the bullet traveled out the barrel and hit the back stop. I never checked for accuracy. There is no need to do this. If you have a WMR, you probably already have a LR too.
