A normal stock is to long for kids and I was thinking buying a BL-22 (13 1/2inch LOP) or a henry youth (13 inch LOP) any suggestion or opinions about those 2 rifles?

I haven't had the chance to play with a BL-22, but the Henry is a very smooth and well made rifle. The grade of wood that they use for their stock is amazing considering the price of the rifle.

I bought my 7 year old the Henry youth model. He is short for his age but he can hold it up and it fits fairly well. It is a simple little gun. He did have a little problem pulling the knob on the bolt back to #### it which really is a good little safety feature because he can't fire it unless I am standing right beside him. The draw back is that if he has his thumb too high up on the grip he can get it pinched when the cocking knob slams forward. A rather unpleasant event I can assure you. Did not stop him from shooting though.

I am not familiar with the other rifle but I am happy with the Henry.

Soon after I was born my dad bought my brother and I each a BL-22. I got to first shoot mine when I was 6. They work(ed) for us. Not a huge gun but very well built and the kid will learn how to shoot properly (iron sights).

I should have precised, I was thinking about the Henry ''lever youth'' model H001Y. My brother have a bl-22, I tried it quite a few times and I like the short throw of this gun but like I said, it will be for a 6yrs boy (UNDER EXTREMELY STRICT SUPERVISION) so the stock have to be short enough well, you know what is like.

BL-22 would be a little long, I bought mine when I was 12 and it is a great gun. I would think that the youth model would be easier for a six year old. My 7 year old daughter is not big enough for the BL-22 yet. I was looking at another stock to cut down for them but figured I will need two .22's anyway so I will buy another gun that will fit them better for not much more $$

The Henry does have the shorter buttstock, but the throw of the lever is so long it borders on the ridiculous.

The stock of the BL-22 may be an inch or so longer, but the short throw of the lever make it much easier for small hands to operate. IMO.

I own both guns, and personally I would recommend the BL-22. The throw on the Henry is as long as my Marlin 30-30, which (IMO) is just plain silly for a .22... But otherwise it is a good little gun for the money.

I had an ideal! buying a a bl-22 and cutting the stock to 13in. only a problem, the gun loose a lot of his value but even then, if the kid use it a lot the finish wont stand enough years to be worth something when the kid will want to get rid of it (if so, 1rt rifle) later.
