22lr lever action?

I have nothing but great things to say about the Browning BL-22. Mine is a grade II with the engraving, the blueing is beautiful and deep, the wood to metal fit is perfect and it is so light that you could carry it all day no problem. The short throw is great too, not a smooth as others but very quick.

I purchased a Henry .22lr lever action and having a great time shooting it! Accurate, eats many types of .22lr ammo, just doesn't miss at 25 yards!

Had a Henry lever but it had major problems grouping after the first 5-6 shots on range. Barrel distortion due to temperature increase. Groups spread out to 3" after a few consecutive shots. Back to dealer.

There are at least 3-4 good options.

The winchester 9422 is an appreciating classic and a good all round performer. The Marlin 39 is also good though not quite as good as sometimes rated - gives problems for some owners - see RFC threads.

A third less known option is the ruger 96 lever. Have one of these in the collection for my son and its a very good rifle indeed. A real surprise. Better than the ruger semis I've had - all the pluses but doesn't jam and clog mags and unlike the semis is very accurate with 0.7" groups at 55 yards. Very quick action. No weaknesses in this rifle.

The Browning also has popular support.

I'm surprised there has been not many recommendations for an older Marlin 39 (pre-crossbolt safety). Had all of the above except a Henry, and my 1960 made Original Golden is what I will never sell.

Cheers,

I suggest the marlin 39A as well. I really like mine, but buyer beware, the newer ones are causing some people a whole lot of headaches, myself included. I managed to fix mine myself, but it did take a bit of work. If you can buy a used one they are great shooters.

I have a BL22 and a 9422. I like the Winchester more of the two. The Browning broke the pin that the ejector mounts to early in the game, and the mainspring weakened with time. Actually, I believe it was never quite right. Both shoot well, but the Winchester is better with more kinds of ammo. It has never missed a beat, has a better trigger and a more solid feel. It's about 30 years old, the BL22 is about 17.

I have a golden 39 and love it. Buddy has the BL 22, and it has broken the firing pin twice. I have had a few of the Winchesters, both the 22 and the 22 win mags. They performed well. Pick them up, and grab whichever one feels the best, and have fun.

if you can get a used Win 9422 i like them (own 3) no crossbolt saftey crap, but if you don`t mind the cross bolt saftey A new or used Marlin will do.The olderr Marlins didn`t have the crossbolt. infact last week three Marlins came up on this site.

the bl-22 is a nice gun.the trigger travels w/ the lever so no pinched fingers:eek:

takedown is tricky, you unscrew the large screw and pull the 2 halves apart.
WARNING--the ejector and spring can and will fall out when you do this!!!
put hammer to half-#### and lower lever to touch hammer first.

made in japan for browning--to be honest it looks a little fragile but i still like it...
