The Marlin, Winchester, and Browning are all excellent rifles - you won't go wrong with either one of the three. Very high quality.

The Ruger 96 is a cut below. I'd rank it with those Winchester 150/250 rifles. An economy design.

I've never handled the Ithaca, Henry or Italians.

I have a Henry, about 30 years old, but as new. I am absolutely amazed at the accuracy of that little lever gun. I have a 4x Bushnell on it. Plus, it is the smoothest action of any lever rifle I have ever used. Period.

If the Ruger is a cut below how come anyone who has one won't let it go???
