I hate posting questions like this, but it seems very hard to hunt this stuff down in Canada.

I just bought a Vostok CM-2 and looking for high quality .22LR that will fit it's chamber. Excited to get back into a rimfire and hope to use it for skill building at a fraction of the cost of my .308.

Where do you guys buy your match / target .22LR?

Thanks,

Just found this site: http://www.targetshootingproducts.com/about.html

Problem is they only sell by the brick. I need to test ammo first and would like to buy qty's of 50 or 100. Not wanting to blow 75-150$ for ammo that my gun doesn't like.

You might want to call them and talk to them.

Target Shooting Products is the retail division of North Sylva, a major importer and distributor for firearms and ammo in Canada.

That was my plan B.

Can't seem to find much about anything local, yet there is quite a bit of biathalon enthusiasts here.

For anybody looking for high end match ammunition, Peter has indeed confirmed he has open bricks and willing to sell by the box. It's not something I'd suggest just to plug him with small, complicated orders, but guns shoot differently with different ammunition. Same with centerfire. Till you find that round, you don't really know what the gun will do.

Once I narrow it down (in which I hope to after this 100-150$ order) I will simply buy qty 500 bricks from him to suppliment my gun's needs. Knowing I have the gun as accurate as possible is the first step to improving skill.

.
If you know someone in Manitoba who travels to Alberta, try J0-Brook Firearms in Brandon. They have different target ammunition, (Eley, RWS, etc.) and sell by the box. Only problem you would have is the cost of shipping.
.

Last month Peter sent me a bunch of different Eley and RWS in lots of 100. Once I had finished testing, I ordered a case of the ammo that grouped the best in my 64MPR with the corresponding lot number. Case showed up 24 hours after the order was placed. Peter is a great guy to talk and deal with. Hard to get hold of sometimes because he is so busy, but he always returns calls and emails.

Try to pick up some SK Standard (excellent mid priced ammo) and some Lapua CenterX. These have both shot extremely well from my Sako's and Anschutz's.

Being that you are local, have you gone to the Calgary Rifle and Pistol club? Do they have in-stock quality .22LR? If so, I was going to pop by there today.

Since you are in Calgary, you should visit the Calgary Rifle and Pistol Club. Match ammo is always available to members.

Not a member at the moment, and have a tough time paying the O&G rate of 300$/year to shoot a .22lr.

For that, I'd probably go to TSE or TSC where I could shoot all my guns.

Do they sell to non-members at a reasonable rate? Otherwise I'm forced to support those who don't gouge.

No, I bought a good supply from Mark at The Powder Keg last time I went back to Kamloops. Hirsch Precision is always a good bet for Match .22lr. TSE actually had a decent selection of Eley last time I was there.

Thanks. Might be doing the range one of these nights and I'll have to check it out. Didn't know they had quality .22lr.

I ordered around 100-130$ worth from Peter today but if it doesn't get here by next weekend I'd like to pick up a 100-200 for plinking over the long weekend.

For those interested, they do indeed have Eley Team at TSE. Picked up 100 in case my order doesn't come in by next Friday allowing me to shoot the rifle with my father.

$11.95/qty 50.

Ah, didn't realize you wanted to shoot high power rifles inside. We are primarily a pistol club but the competitive match rifle shooters are with us all winter. Still the least expensive shooting club in Calgary, and the ammo prices are better than any retail source, so I'm puzzled by your intimation that CRPC "gouges".

Not specific to the CRPC. Our ranges in Calgary appear to be the highest in Canada when you consult the "range fee costs threads". I stopped by to get the low down last night, but I can't afford those membership fees.

Centerfire rifle isn't high up on my list, but is a huge bonus when it comes to looking for an indoor range.

For now I just go to TSE a few times a year with my buddy who has a membership. Not impressed with their facilities though either.

The boys at Target Shooting Products are great. Just by the Center X and call it a day. Rifle Match and Standard Plus are cheaper and I haven't seen a rifle that didn't like them. If they don't shoot well enough then just sort the rounds. $5.50 per 50 for the Standard Plus, it shoots better than anything else I've put through it for that price.
