.22lr "Military" pistols

Yeah but most of us hate to see the new guy on the firing line clearing jamb after jamb after jamb, ect ect ect.... its just not safe, and its discouraging to new shooters. Personaly I think the new shortest bbl ruger hunter with the fluted bbl is sweet looking. Though the standard stainless model is a nice gun. I have never had a jamb in my mk 2, ever!

Yeah I hate to see it also but what are you supposed to do? :bangHead: He asked for advice and we gave it to him. He decided to reject it. Sure he is making a mistake but he is a big boy and is allowed to.

Just think of it this way. He has a limited budget. He will probably buy a POS off some one who now knows better and will be more than willing to get rid of it. This may allow the previous owner to buy a decent gun with the money from this sale.

You have to like the look of the gun that you shoot. If he doesn't like the look of a decent gun then it will never perform well for him. It is unfortunate that the type of gun he likes is one that is somewhat lacking. :puke: Maybe his expectations are really not that high. He might only be a 7 yard shooter. :ar15: As long as he is able to keep the muzzle pointed down range during malfunctions then there will be little risk to others.

I hope ancorp has a sense of humor. ;)

Haha, I expected something like this. But from other reports I hear the P22 is a fun plinker. The guy likes "that look" of handguns, and wouldn't want to buy a .22 that looks like a true sporting pistol (I'm using my terminology loosely here, but I'm sure you all understand what I mean).

Better suggestions for around $300-350 for "that look" are welcome, but I doubt anything else is really available. He is also a fan of the Glocks (thus polymer frames), and has held a P99 before, and loved the comfort on that (yes I'm aware that the p22 is smaller, and so is he).

Hell, I myself want him to own the P22 as well, that way I get to have some fun with it downrange too.

It can't be THAT bad, can it?...

Well I just took a quick look and Illingworth imports shows some on their site,

Little over $300.00 though.

Tell your buddy to save another couple hundred dollars and you will have more choices.....

It is a fun gun but it sure is not a great gun as a first and only gun. It's also not cheap. Unfortunately you don't have a lot of options with that price range.

It is all good brother, I understand almost everyone love the sweet look of the P22 and I been there. We are all search for the perfect gun however there isn't any thing perfect. But If your friend wants a P22, make sure he read this thread before he go for it.

Now this is an odd suggestion. This gun has just been listed on the EE, 275$ + shipping. Buy it and cut the barrel down to just over the 105 mm prohibited limit. Either put a compensator on it (to extend the look of the slide) or put a fake silencer on it (keep the original length and sight) . You would need to put a sight on it as well (cut down barrel). James Bond look out!

I have no idea how well the gun works but it sure would be a fun gun. It has a conventional "big gun" type slide. If it were a little cheaper I might do it myself.

I saw that one, thanks. Hideous in its current state, and I doubt I'd have the skill to cut it down properly. The bottom of the grip is quite ugly too. Perhaps it's time to re convince someone to buy a different caliber pistol, and leave the .22 for later.

But I'll keep bumping the WTB thread just in case.

Thanks,
Cheers,
Alex

Which other one would that be Rick?
Less then $540...

Better yet how much was the Tanfoglio?:)

And where did you find the best price?

Looks good by the way!

I'm gonna re-post what I said about the P22 in an earlier post, since this post, I've put about 3500 Rounds through the gun, mostly Fed Blue Box Bulk... very little FTE's, no FTFs' and only 1 / 20 mags will the slide not lock back on the last round.

I've removed the front site on the comp, it wiggled too much, now I have it mounted on the slide, looks cooler IMHO.

I stripped it down two nights ago and there is a tiny bit of wear on the slide (maybe 1mm) Other than that, minty bore, flawless internals.

Good gun, small enough for the misses but not too small to shoot comfortably.

I'd recommend it to anyone, just remember, get a later model and USE Remington Teflon spray lube.

I'll add my 2 cents in as well, as I've read up alot on these little devils and bought one, I'm just waiting for my ATT to go through before I can shoot her

Looks to me like you got one from a "good batch"

the "AG" on your ejection port states that it's a 2006 model, apparently anything before 04 is bad news.

Also, you have "A-Suffix" mags, A - for advanced... Walther tweaked them as the old ones had alot of trouble with the semi double stacking and rounds not being picked up during a cycle.

www.rimfirecentral.com has a pile of info on this gun, including an illustrated step by step on dissassembly and slight modifications recommended for flawless fireing.

These include

1) Stretching the extracter spring, to fix the problem with rounds ejecting into your face.

2) Polishing certain interals to prevent prolonged usage wearing.

3) Polishing and rounding off the hammer off slightly to prevent it from catching on the rear slide interals and creating the "walking safety" problem

4) Polishing the feed ramp to allow hollow points to feed correctly.

Yes this gun DOES require a few mod's to have it shooting nice off the bat, but after words, you've got a unique pistol, great for the wife to shoot (unless your wife has man hands

Like I said though, I haven't shot mine yet, I get most of the info from the net, and from a guy at the range I frequent, he has the prohib short barreled version, I've put about 200 rounds through it and it shoots like a dream.

Stingers are a ton of fun in the p22 I was stacking them every second round with federal champions and at 25 yards you could see on my target where the stingers landed about an inch higher... the muzzel flash from these puppies rivals some of the 9's at the club :D

Finally for those of you looking to get into the p22 but are worried about negative reviews online, just make sure you get a later model. I'll post a long review once mine is out and eating though bulk packs twice a week!

Just bought a P22 from Frontier for 419$ plus GST and S&H. I know that's like 50$ less than the price advertised on their website, but I wasn't going to argue with him :D

He also said its one of their top sellers.

Actually yes it was 530 lol
Its a sweet gun... polymer handle aluminium slide.... the whole slide comes back when you shoot it... not like th cz... you can order them off of freedom adventures... I got mine out of Epps in Orrilia ON.
everybody who has shot it at my club REALLY liked it... will eat ANY ammo... needs a good cleaning after 1500 rounds though (brobally the easist gun I have ever taken apart, can do it in less then a min for sure)
I is really really light and has a sweet trigger.
I highly recomend.

the only this is the slide dosen't lock back when the last round is fired... have to count shots.
there is a thread that I started on the next pages showing more pictures of the gun

On an American 1911 board they have had trouble with the slide of the Walther P-22 as it tends to crack up at the front close to a pin hole of the slide, closer to the front blade.

Personally I have High Standard Victor to Trophy with Colt angle of the grip that shoot darn well & used an amazing lot. Also picked up a Ruger Mk II with 5.5" bull bbl & it to feels like the others, though NOT in a 45 angle of the grip. Thing is the latter takes a LOT of pounding & said Ruger seems to not break down. Besides the cost is much better then some of the more costly .22 semi-autos.

While I also shoot a full house PPC revolver to a few other revolves in center fire to S&W 617X6" & some 9X19s my preference are for two 45s churned out by Dlask up in Delta B.C.
