22lr reloading kit, its finally time

Hey guys

I just went and bought my first box of 22lr in a very long time. I cannot believe it, I can actually reload my 9mm for 2 cents less a round (14 cents) than I can buy 22lr (.16 cents) for. It was 7.99 a box, plus tax. Though I found some "bulk" bricks of 500 for 56$ as well. But that would also be plus tax and shipping.

The time has come for me to seriously consider buying the 22lr reloading kit from 22lrreloader.com in the states.

Quick math shows I can cast the bullet for about 2 cents, prime the case for another 2, and probably 1 cent of powder for a total of 5 cents a round.

8 bucks a box of 50 for 22lr is ludicrous, has anybody else caved and tried that reloading kit?

I have reloaded 22lr just for sh1ts with match heads and strips, and a 55gr gas check shanked bullet, and they worked okay. But of course I had to trim a mile off the brass, and I cant crimp them in place without a special crimper so it wasnt ideal.

Yes it seems a little tedious, but at this point it really seems the cost savings could be worth it.

Last time I ordered bulk .22lr on sale, the retailer accidently doubled my order so that was the cheapest .22lr I have ever bought. A bunch of heavily waxed Tac22 stuff but the Kadet and 10/22's eat it right up.
 
I guess you need to factor in your time in too as far as the costs are concerned.

I think your best best is to keep your ear to the ground for sales. Just before Christmas I bought a case of bulk 22lr ammo for about .07 per round from a site sponsor for high volume shooting. When my boy and I go to the range we are usually going through 500+ rounds of .22 per session. I couldn't imagine the time it would take to load that.

I look at the time investment as a hobby for those evenings and weekends where you dont wanna leave the house. Also just being able to make your own ammo is appealing to me in a time where who knows what this sh1tty government is going to decide. Maybe they will only allow a person to purchase 1 box of ammo for a hunting season to stop stock piling. I dont trust them to say the least.
 
I get gas at Costco but using my Canadian Tire Triangle card. When there is a spend $200 and they kick in $40 to go on your card, i buy 2000-3000 rds. Brings the price down to a nickle a round. That was a couple of years ago and I'm sitting with $350 Crappy Tire money credit on my card, just waiting!

If you search it’s easy to find 22lr for less than 10 cents a round but that’s more than they used to be
 
I can remember buying bulk 22LR for 2 cents a round. It worked well in my pump and bolt actions, the semi was a little more picky. If the bulk ammo had loose projectiles in the shell they would almost always end with a FTF. Using CT money is a great idea to keep the costs down
 
As long as 22LR is available just keep buying it and have a stash of it in case we have a repeat from years ago when you couldn’t buy it
I usually get some every time I go to a gun shop
I reload everything I shoot except for 22lr and 22 mag
Doesn’t seem worth it to load them, maybe 22 mag would be worth it but sounds real time consuming for not much gain
 
I have averaged .11 over the last few years, waxed, copper plated, etc. That link could provide 2500 rounds for less than .10 incl. shipping and tax. 👍
 
I don't know, man - I think that's getting into "life's too short to..." territory. If you shoot so little .22 that reloading is viable, then I don't know why you're complaining about the price - I just buy bulk Aguila when SFRC has a sale, or Federal automatch when that comes on at FOC, and buy enough to get free shipping.

If you shoot bulk..... No, I just can't imagine reloading it by the brick. And then you have to index each case in your rifle.... More schidts than giggles IMO

There must be hundreds of different .22 ammo makes on the market, which one did you buy?
