22lr repeater 700 footprint?

Calfee used to cut the rear lugs in a CF 700 action and fit the PTG 40X rimfire bolt (or NOS ones) into his clones. I'm lucky enough to have a 40XB single shot, and it is by far the most buttery smooth action ever, I'd never do a repeater conversion, I've got lots of CZ's or Anschutz that fill that void not to mention a pair of 541T HB's. The 541 is NOT like a 700, it's a little version of the 788 rear lug action. I'd jump on a 40X repeater in a heartbeat....if anyone wants to trade into a Coyote ;-)

I picked up a Stiller 2500X action from Gary at Big Horn and I'm waiting for the snow to keep me indoors so I can screw the barrel onto it and bed it. They make a repeater version of this action as well.

I agree with Steve. My 40Xes all work flawlessly as single shots and I wouldn't consider converting to a mag feed. Feeding issues are a not so infrequent occurrence with the Rem custom shop's repeaters. That's a hard pill to swallow considering the price and the cost of the mags. The problem might be solved if a different mag system could be used.
If I had a nitpick about the 40X it would be the loading tray and spring loaded spacer adjacent to the tray. It sometimes causes centering issues of the cartridge prior to chambering. Many of the European (Anschutz,Walther,Bleiker,Grunig) designs have a tray that centers the cartridge with no issues.
This is an issue that Gerry Stiller addressed with his Copperhead and 2500X actions.

@pgw Steve. Hey what did it cost u to get a stiller 2500x action? I'm super imterested not going that route. Would need somebody to do a barrel for me tho

PT& G make the bolts and firing pins but I have never seen an action from them. The bolts are offered for those who have acquired a CMP rifle from the NRA auctions that were selling barreled actions and rifles without bolts(likely misplaced after years in military storage).

Dryfire, PTG had 40x single shot clone actions available for purchase on their website last year. When I was building my 40x (non USMC, non US Army, non CMP 40x), I looked for spare parts from them (I do buy a lot of stuff from PTG through my job each year). They had a limited run of clone 40x actions for sale and unfortunately I didn't get a hold of one. I was looking at ways to have one imported through a broker when I checked their website to find out they were not listed anymore. I sent PTG an e-mail around 2 months ago regarding their availability and I was told they didn't have any of them left and didn't have any plans for more. From what I understood, they were originating directly from Remington and were somewhat finished by PTG (they were not old and used CMP Receivers). Unfortunately , they also stopped making their one piece bolt for the 40x, only 2 piece (handle uninstalled) are available now, for the same price the one pieces were a while back. I'm not saying they were making 40x clones on a regular basis but they had limited quantities last year, also bolts are offered to whowever wants to purchase them.

That's interesting. It may have been inventory they acquired after the demise of the Remington custom shop.
(My wording may have been a little misleading re the incomplete actions from the CMP.)

ht tp://baityscustom.com/ but I would contact them as they moved the action screws around a couple times and they may or may not still be a perfect 700 foot print
