Hello,

I'm having a hard time settling on a 22lr pistol. I'm not a huge fan of the ruger mkIII look, although many would agree that its a benchmark against which other pistols are compared. I'm looking into what other options may suit my needs.

Requirements:
  • Max budget: $500 (before taxes/shipping etc)
  • Must fit a very small hand. Getting this for my GF to use, she finds it impossible to hold my glock 17 properly (cant reach the controls, can barely reach the trigger, etc). My 1911 is much more comfortable in her hand, something that size would be manageable, but smaller would work as well.
  • Must be reliable
  • Must be durable

Ive been looking at things like the GSG 1911, i like the price, but dont like how most people say it wears down really quickly.
looking at an M&P22, but not living close to any stores selling them... i dont know what the grip is like on that, hows the reliability?

Does anyone have any recommendations that would meet my criteria?

Thanks

Other than the finish wearing a bit, my GSG runs great. I broke it in with 500 rounds of MiniMags, now I just use Federal bulk. It's quite accurate and a lot of fun. It's very reliable, which isn't always the case with semi 22lr.

I really like my browning buckmark stainless urx , and more importantly my wife loves it...as well i let other women try it and they all found it easy to learn on. It's also got the soft rubber wrap around grips and fibre front sight, eats all brands of ammo except federal bulk ammo for some strange reason.

I'd say the Norinco M93 fits your criteria. My older one ate everything I fed flawlessly. I sold it but have since picked up another. Havent taken the newer one to the range yet but I'm sure it'll shoot well. There's a lot floating on the EE for reasonable prices

I recently just bought M&P 22. First time out range other day ran smoothly no issues at all, using Blazer bulk ammo 250-300 rounds. Fits great in my hands(Med sized hands), sights work well. Glad I purchased.

1. GSG/SIG 1911 >>> fun to shoot, easy cleaning, most quality issues has been resolved by GSG, Best overall after-sales support (BLUELINE), plenty of accessories being a 1911 platform. Available almost everywhere.
2. Ruger Mark III >>> Solid build, accurate, not so easy field stripping and re-assembly. Not sure of the after-sales support. Trigger upgrade kits available. Availability: Good luck in finding one
3. Browning Buckmark Contour >>> Solid build, very accurate, not so easy field-stripping and re-assembly. Not sure of the after-sales support. Upgrade parts not so common. Availability: better than a Ruger.

Have a MP 22, put a couple thousand rounds down the pipe with no issues at all. Mags were hard to come by but IRunGuns has had a good supply in the last few months. A very nice gun to shoot and the price of ammo you can have a great night at the range for 25 bucks.

I bought my wife a Walther P22 for Christmas a couple years ago, so far it seems pretty good. I did smooth out a couple sharp edges internally to make the slide not wear out too quickly though. My boss bought a Beretta Neos, and it has a pretty small grip as well, but the trigger pull is long, gritty, and heavy. I've never seen it apart, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to smooth it out a bit.

I vote for the Walther P22. Bought one for my wife since she has small hands, and she absolutely loves it! We run Blazer ammo in it, it hasn't malfunctioned on us even once yet (knock on wood) Its seen probably 2000rds now.

Go for the Smith and Wesson M&P. Even though it says Smith and Wesson, it's made by Walther in Germany. Mags are hard to find but irunguns had them, not sure if they still do. It shoots well and has a very nice grip for larger hands. Easy to field strip without tools as well. It's a little more complex and harder to get into the nooks and crannies to clean compared to other calibres in the M&P platform, it is a rim fire after all. You will not be dissapointed and it's within your $500 budget. The Walther P22 was too small of a gun for my likes and my hand, but essentially you are getting the quality of a German pistol in a little larger frame with the M&P 22 vs the P22. If you are only considering your girlfriend, the M&P might be a little large for grip, go with the P22

Good recommendation.

I've been eying that up as well. reviews seems to be pretty positive. Can anyone who actually owns one comment on the grip size, could a small girl hold it comfortably? were talking 100lb, 5'2" ish with hands that are probably around the size of a 12-14yr old.

before you say it... no she is not 12-14! she HAS managed to fire my g17, but she ends up having to hold it so low on the grip that the pistol twists uncomfortably, she won't be doing that again.

I have the GSG 1911, nothing but positive results. Easy to manage, accurate POI, light weight and CHEAP to shoot. If you don't have hours of fun with this pistol every time you go out, and cheap too, then something is wrong. GSG make the best .22 semi 1911 around. By the way, probably around 4,000 or so rounds down range, Federal Bulk ammo, only chabged the rubber bumper on guide rod.
