.22LR semi-auto pistol- Thinking of Sig Mosquito Sport- What's good?

I may be old-school, but I don't understand the interest in all these polymer-framed semi-auto copies of popular guns in .22. From what I read on these boards they seem like a lot of hassle for nothing.

For my money, nothing beats a Ruger, a Buckmark or a nice revolver.

I have a M93.
For 150$, you cannot go wrong.
Cycles as reliably as any .22 that I own.
These do need a good cleaning;
mine had issues with the action release until I got the last bit off cosmo.
The sites are so so.

I am hearing a lot of good about the Ruger Mark 3 22/45, and it is starting to grow on me. You guys that have them- besides price, what is the difference between the blued finish and the stainless? As far as .22s that have the same look as a glock or M&P9 or something, I'm not hearing a lot of good. Possibly the Sig P226, for a hefty price. Another option might be to get a Glock 17 and get the .22 conversion so that I have both. What kind of prices am I looking at for the conversion? Does it put through the cheap bulk ammo well?

I have a 22/45 blued and a MarkIII stainless. They are the same other than look & grip. The MarkIII has some minor differences such as the chambered round indicator, integrated safety trigger lock, slightly different slide release latch. They both shoot flawlessly. I never get FTF & FTE's.

Do what he says! I wish that this was what I did instead of getting the mosquito.

Not that I hate my mosquito, it has been reliable and eats the cheapest ammo, but the P226 classic kit is so much better. Metal frame AND you can change caliber down the line, just cant beat that!

I just got the GSG 1911 as well, much better overall then mosquito, all metal and a much lighter/smoother trigger.

My dad has the Ruger mkIII competition stainless, it is a really nice gun, accurate (hit gongs at 100 yards no problem). It is pretty heavy though and has a long barrel

Get a Sig P226 Classic .22lr instead. It is a full size pistol frame which allows you to convert it up to 9mm, 40s&w, or 357 sig when you ready. Some of the site sponsers have them in stock like Ellwood Epps, Crafm, Wolverine, maybe Badger Arms. Questar sells them for $609 but the have to order it so it could be 4-6 weeks before they actually receive it. Check out the Sig Sauer website on these. Here is a very informative video on it:

Another option is the ever popular GSG 1911.

I am still liking the looks of the ISSC M22, but I am coming around to the idea of the near-flawless performance of the Rugers. I am considering the stainless Mark 3, 22/45 with the bull barrel. Does anyone have any info on the M22, and also, what is the difference between Rugers and the Browning Buck Marks? They look pretty similar to me. Is one better than the other? Again, I'm looking at using cheap bulk federal ammo, or equivalent.

A huge reason for wanting to stick with the .22LR is the super-cheap ammo. I buy the bulk winchester stuff from walmart- 500 rounds for $16. What .22 semi-auto pistols will shoot this stuff every time without problems?

The CZ Kadet will fire anything you put in it...and if it doesn't go bang then you just pull the trigger again. Through four or five boxes of federal bulk ammo I think I've had one round that never went off.

It's also imo the one .22lr pistol that manages to feel like its big brothers.

The only problem is that it's on the expensive end of .22lr semi-autos and the slide can be difficult to rack for some, although half cocking the hammer makes it somewhat easier.

I agree. Ive got over 5000 rounds through mine and the only misfires were from bad ammo and that has only happened 3 times. They shoot the cheapest ammo out there with no problems.

I don't think he's looking to spend around $900 plus on a .22lr. He's looking for one's around the $600 and under range I believe. Not sure on how good the ISSC M22 is but I would rather just buy a Glock and the a advantage arms .22 kit. Makes more sense. But again, I think it's more than your looking to spend for the Glock package.

I shot the Mosquito years ago. it was jammmatic and didnt seem like a quality piece. I have a GSG on the way and pretty excited about it.

By the time you spend the money to 'accurize' your Ruger MKX pistol with Volquartsen's finest (and yep it is fine gear) you will be further ahead money wise to buy a Model 41 Smith and Wesson for 850.00
Or if you want to split the Difference get a Browning Buckmark.

Dime groups at 25M can be done from a rest. Even with the best VQ had to offer on a 6.75" Ruger, the groups were about nickle sized.

2 shooters alternating on both guns, and the results are the same

Get a WALTHER P-22. I have one of them and I LOVE IT.. so does my wife!! It is small though. So, if you have big hands, I recommend that you try one before buying.

Sig is a JAM FESTIVAL if you don't shoot CCI mini mag.. Walther will shoot anything you put in it from walmart's cheapest ammo to anything you can think of!

Good luck in your search!

The ISSC M22 is a nice pistol, but mine only likes to nom on Blazer, any other ammo will make it jamtastic, thankfully the Chiappa 1911 and GSG 1911 like to dine on Blazer too :)

Great stuff guys. I'm heading over to Wholesale Sports to fondle some Rugers and Buckmarks. After watching some reviews, I wish I would have picked up a Ruger 22/45 Mark 2. The Mark 3's magazine safety sounds lousy to deal with. Also, the grips on the Mark 2 seemed better. I think there is a Mark 3 that you can swap out the grips. Again, maybe Buck Mark has something too. They look so similar. Do they have the same Rugers?

How about a Beretta 87 Target?
