Does anybody do any 22LR action shooting in Alberta? Basically I'm looking for some folks who like to have some fun rimfire competitions. Also, has anybody shot the Bullseye night at Phoenix in Edmonton?

I think this is a great idea. Tactical rimfire is a great way to develop some fundamentals at much less cost than centerfire!

I don't come on this subforum much. Is there another thread on the topic already?

"Ruger Rimfire" action shooting matches are happening in the US, there's no reason we couldn't adapt them for here. Pistol and CQB rifle would make loads of sense, separately or in multigun format. You could add rimfire rifle shooting at 100yds+ for "precision 3-gun".

I have to admit, I'm glad there's interest. I'm getting the impression that we might be on our own to get this going. Where do we begin? To be honest, I was looking for something like this to get introduced to action shooting so I'm in the dark as far as actually setting this up. I'd imagine it would take a bit more than just going to a range and say "I've got a bunch of guys who wanna wanna run around with rimfire pistols for an afternoon". I haven't done IPSC or IDPA before so I'm in the dark in terms of how these matches work. Any insight's appreciated.

wrasalberta.com but they likely won't have anything on the website. If not, just show up at 9 on sat or 10 on sun. We will get you in.

You can shoot rimfire rifle or pistol, or both. You do not need a holster for rimfire pistol. You can shoot sat or sun, or both. I'm not sure what match fees are but I'm sure Sam or Tex will be posting it.

Match is 195 rounds minimum, you will shoot more. Maybe bring 300? Glad you mentioned mags. Most stages are 5 strings of 5 rounds minimum. So if you have 10 shot mags, best to have five. If its a rifle and you have 25 rounds, two will do.

BTSA is hosting a Steel Challenge match on August 11th at the Homestead range (the private section). Rimfire pistol and rimfire rifle are both welcome. http://www.btsa.ca/matches/?page_id=4

If you're new to steel challenge, please be aware that you should be able to reload between strings quickly, otherwise things slow to a crawl while everyone waits for you to reload. Detachable magazines are best (though revolvers are permitted), with 25 rounds of total capacity required (5rds X 5 strings). 50 rounds capacity recommended (more if you miss lots!).

The last match I was at a guy had rigged up a speedloader system to load his tube-fed pump-action 22 rifle. It worked well enough, and he was competitive with it.
