22LR shortage - what's going on?

Been a shortage for over a year but getting better in my neck of the woods. Would recommend always having 2-3 bricks on hand for times like these. So "hoard" a few when you get a chance. Buy cheap and stack deep.
 
My local shop told me that no new orders (22's & 9's)are coming into Canada for 6 months! He said the European suppliers will pick up some of the slack but only for 9mm...but he was told by his suppliers that they can't keep up with demand in the states!
 
Around here the selection is down but there is still lots. One place I called had at least 5 cases of blazer bulk. I just tend to shoot the rifles more that prefer the more available ammo now.

go to an on-line supplier, buy 5000 of your favorite.... i think .22 is drying up. it did in the states and thats where we get ours from.

OR: if your willing to wait, you take a chance, early summer should dry up alot. (just notice that winter is slower).

edit: i got a batch from CanAm for CCI and shipping is free over $200 to bring it in at 9 cents/rd.

i have lots of cheap ammo, so i bought what cycles good. maybe call them and ask.

Nope , just looked at the 4 unopened cases in my shop and another 2 or 3 thousand rounds in open boxes. There is no shortage.
 
^^ X2 only ammo I buy from wally is the cheap 12G boxes. CT is always low on ammo too but every local gun store has lots. no federal blue box tho dammit!!!
 
Again, its all due to buying in the U.S. Any 22 ammo that hits the stores in the U.S. is gone within hours, so the supply to Canada has dwindled as demand is too strong in the Homeland. Guys laughed at many of us a year ago who said this will continue for a while. It will continue for a while yet, and is likely to get worse. The last lead smelter in the U.S. was forced to close its operation in December, due to the EPA enforcing an additional 100+ nonsense regulations. This WILL DRASTICALLY AFFECT 22 AMMO SUPPLY. Buy what you can while you can, as you will likely NEVER see the free flow of 22 ammo again, you won't see the days where it was cheap and plentiful, those days are gone.

no it won't effect anything because ammo company's do not use new lead for bullets, it's all recycled lead for a better price....

Its economics 101 dude, if there is no new lead where on earth are you going to get recycled lead from???? picking bullets out of gophers? What are tire balancing weights made from these days?
