Looking for a new plinker. I have a marlin semi model 70 and its ok but want something with more mounting options. And the look of course!
What would or did you buy and why? Looked at ISSC MKII my local dealer has a used one but its $499. And I found online for 570. Also Mossberg 715 flat top, this one is cheap @$329 and did get fairly good reviews. Then the Ruger Sr22 which is kind of expensive for a 22 @730. Chime in pls!

I don't think you can go wrong with a ruger. That sr22 is a nice piece of kit but it's heavy.i like the metal parts but it's too heavy to let's say hunt with it comfortably, or carry it for any length of time.
I don't care for the plastic tactical stuff I've been there done that. I had an archangel and a marauder it's all just plastic crap the novelty wears off quickly. That being said I just don't like plastic they worked well and looked cool if you want a m4 or g36 clone go for it they do the job.
Now I run a magnum research in a houge stock and a volquartsen ultralight. That being said there are some wicked stocks for ruger that tacticool it out if I where you id try and build a ruger based on a dar-22 or something like that. I'd just start with a used ruger or such from the ee for a good price and buy a tactical stock when you have the money.
The reason being is the ruger has many many magazine options from 10-110 round. They fit the snuggest and are of the best design. The ruger has the best aftermarket.
I like the ati strike force folding stock ruger must have as well they sold an assembled one from factory.i like this stock the best http://www.hical. ca/ati-10-22-six-position-side-folding-in-desert-tan/Or the archangel or marauder. Or that folding stock from hi cal. http://www. hical.ca/underfold-10-22-stocks/. Magpul just came out with a cool stock too http://store. theshootingcentre.com/products/magpul-hunter-x-22-stock-for-ruger-10-22.
Long story short I would probably try and get a light .920 barrelled 10/22 but there kind of expensive. So I would probably start with a 10/22 and stock up on magazines and a good optic and upgrade to like a x ring tacsol or magnum research Kidd or volquartsen when you have the cash sell the other on on the ee and just keep upgrading. Hope this helps

Get the SR 22 used for around $500 if you can, its awesome. Not worth $700 new with no extra add ons. Or buy pretty much the same thing without the tactical jazz and buy a ruger 10/22. you can jazz thoes up on your own as well.

Well I wouldn't buy the mossberg because it's all plastic and the confusion with the pin to ten round mags because of the pistol. Not sure if that got resolved or something. They only have one choice of mags and it's hard to break down and clean and has way way to many parts. Or the issc because of many of the same reasons minus the magazines for pistols. It's expensive for what it is and I don't think parts are near as easy to come by or service. I just am a die hard ruger fan, that and I have a ruger m77/22 that take the same mags I have a lot of the butler creek mags the 110 gsg mags h3 mags the stock ten rotary mags, so it's a no brainer for me. Plus once your over the whole tacticool thing and want to work towards function and accuracy the ten 22 can back it up with very high quality aftermarket. And it's been around 50 years. And you can change the trigger packs to something suitable or do a stock trigger job very easily. Plus you can actually sell the take off parts very easily. So if you want to upgrade or don't like a part sell it . There like the Honda Civic/s2000 of .22/s anything can be done sky's the limit as cheap or as expensive I'm just a huge ruger fan there awesome in my opinion and wouldn't consider anything else unless I won the lottery and did bought something for a laugh to try it out.

I wouldn't. But if you must I suppose the SR22 is the only good choice that isn't cheap.
Personally I would just get a black synthetic 10/22 and slap a red dot on it and dress it up however else you like.
That way you don't have to have a restricted sr22.

SR22 looks cool, is accurate and is heavy. The Mossberg 715 is sorta not good. It's actually pretty accurate for what it is, but jams every now and then unless using Wincheste3r Wildcat ammo. Then it only jams nce per mag. Mine had the right mag release fall off, too. But if you want it, it's yours fr $250, shipped, and that includes 4 25 round mags for it. :)

I have the SR-22 and I love it. Definitely heavy but not so much as to be a problem for any shooting I've been doing. I've tried a red dot on it but prefer the magnified scope.

I Run Guns has(d?) a sale in the issc's, $299 iirc. Remington 597 VTR is an option. Those have been discontinued, but they area still available in the EE. Personally, I'd avoid the 715, just on the fact that they are a supreme pain to take apart.

Hello , I am too interested in a tactical 22 and have heard many good things of the ruger r22 but as mentioned above anyone have feedback on the issc's, $299 iirc its supposed to be lighter?

thank you

I think your only option is an SR22 for non-restricted. "Only" meaning that other than the Remington VTR, the other non-restricted "black" 22s look/feel pretty toy-like. On the other hand, even an SR22 is pretty pricey for what you're getting. A 22 in that price range should be allot more accurate than a Ruger 10/22. My opinion only.

I had a SR 22 and tac sol aluminum barrel, it wasn't too heavy. There's a SR 22 kit in the EE for $250, you'll need a action and trigger, and barrel. You could find a used 1022 for $250 and run that barrel , until you can upgrade to a tac sol . So $500 gets you shooting and $200 later gets you an awesome tac sol barrel.
