It's been :redface:a while but I'm contemplating getting back into some degree of semi serious bullseye type handgun shooting. Question,:) what's the .22LR ammo of choice today??

The obvious answer is whatever your particular gun wants!!! I tried 2 boxes of everything! All the way from bargain basement bulk , to top of the line "match" grade ammo and my contender decided that it liked Remington thunderbolt the best!!! Find what shoots for your gun and your type of shooting and buy LOTS of that lot # .Just my 2 cents worth. YMMV.

Thanks guys. I will do a bit of trial and error with a few different brands but I just thought I'd throw the question out there to get an idea of what the main preferences are today. If I remember correctly, way back when I was first interested in that course of shooting, one of the favorites was Lapua but I believe it was classed as rifle match. I did pick up a couple of bricks of CCI Standard velocity so that'll get me going. Thanks again.

I do not shoot my handguns well enough for target grade ammo, however in rifle Lapua Midas with fed gold medal a tie due to cost of lapua.

The truth be known, me either. Just thought if I was going to get something specific for pistol shooting, may as well go with suggestions of what's working well for others.

Thunderbolts...you either luv 'em or hate 'em.
Best grouping ever, was with my High standard, with Thunderbolts!:)

I'll put my American Eagle against Eley Club, and Lapua Midas. In fact, I did today, and I will keep shooting the Eagle. at .039 per round, it's hard to beat its price/performance ratio.

Eley beats it, barely, Lap Midas was slightly better, but when you factor in the cost of shooting 7 CASES of .22 per year, it really adds up....

Darn Pistol Silhouette.... and practice practice practice....

(all the above ammo was .40gn)
