.22short/CB in .22LR handguns?

Can I use .22short/CB ammo in .22LR semiauto handgun?

I know I wouldn't be able to load them in a magazine but what if I load it single shot; directly in the chamber (and ease-in the slide) I've tried that with .22LR ammo and it works just fine.

EDIT: I would be using Norinco M93 so there's enough hand clearence.

You could but they would be hard on you LR chamber and they will lack the power to cycle the action so likely that you will get some sort of ejection jam on every round. So the answer is "not recommended".

If you want to shoot quiet 22 use a revolver.

I don't need them to cycling the action; since I would have to manually feed each round... but why would it be hard on the chamber? Isn't .22LR higher pressure/hotter round than .22short or CB (or at least the same)?

I've done this with my 22/45. Works fine, single shot/manual load. The only concern would be "leading" the chamber d/t it's shortness. Proper cleaning afterwards, and all is fine.

I'll second that. Single load the fun little guys. Clean after to reliably run long rifle rounds again. No harm at all.

Would running a couple of mags of .22LR through the gun at the end of a session of shooting .22CB/Shorts avoid the leading issues?

I am very lazy. If shooting my gun more will also help clean it, I'm all for it!

But I can sell you some "special" cleaning rounds for $5 each. They look like normal Dynapoints, but trust me, they are special cleaning rounds.

Just get some 22 cb longs instead of cb shorts,same power but in a longer case for better feeding.

so would the .22 Long CB actually feed from the magazine, or do you mean easie to put in the chamber because it's larger?

In my Ruger MK I they (CB longs) feed reliably from the magazine when the pistols bolt (in this case) is racked after each shot to chamber the next round.

I tried cb longs in my ruger mk2, fed well and required manual cycling. But although noticeably quieter then long rifle, they were still too loud to justify the expense/"hassle". I plan to try them in my 10/22, they should be quiet there.
