Hey guys, looking to hear from anyone who uses a .22WMR to hunt gophers...even those who MIGHT prefer .22WMR over .17HMR. Here's the deal. I'm planning on going on my first gopher-hunting trip in the summer of 2012 (I live in Ontario) and AS an Ontario groundhog hunter, I've cleared-out my HMRs in favor of calibers that reliably put down the big hogs here~.22WMR and .223. (among others
)
So, my gopher-hunting friends near Calgary have all gotten rid of their .22lrs in favor of .17 HMR and love the explosive power they offer (compared to .22lr)....but I don't have an HMR in the quiver anymore. Obviously...it would be more fun to just get another HMR, but as a western "travel" gun, I can't really justify it right now. So, looking to have someone tell me "HELL yeah, the WMR will be awesome in that roll!!"
I know .22WMR (here) is about $5 a box cheaper than HMR, so that's a very small part of it. I also know that the power difference between .22lr and .17HMR on gophers is immense~very few gophers survive...even briefly...a direct hit from one. I just never hear of anyone discussing .22WMR on them...
Thanks for taking a moment to respond.
