Guys
I am about to buy a Ruger American in a 22 WMR. As you know, receiver is grooved for 3/8 dovetail rings but also drilled and tapped for #12 Weaver bases. I'm kind of leaning to the traditional Weaver bases and rings but are the dovetail rings are simpler to install. Are dovetail rings strong enough for the 22 mag? Opinions from experienced users please.
Thanks

Strong enough? Yes. Personally, I like weaver bases and low rings. I think its a more sturdy base too, in terms of the rings moving foreword and back on the dovetail from recoil, over time. Overall not much of a difference I would say. The dovetail will give you more room to get the right position for your scope as well.

Nothing beats the look of Burris Zee rings for simplicity and darn good looks.
Plus, with the inserts, no scope rings to be had.
Weaver products are fine to use, but why add kibbles to the bitts?

Dovetails or Weaver bases~either will be fine. 22WMR has only a marginally "heavier" recoil than .22LR, so no issues there. The PROS to using dovetail~VancouverSkiBum is right. If your scope is sensitive eye-relief wise, it will allow a bit of forward/backward positioning to correct for it. For a good selection of rings for dovetail, check out BKLs. Try D&L Airgun in BC. They carry a great selection. The advantages using Weaver bases~the scope is less likely to slip, and, the selection of rings out there is HUGE compared to what's out there for rimfire/dovetail. However...back to BKL~they're a quality product, and strong. Install them right and nothing is moving.

I bought a simmons scope at crappy tire for my marlin 22wmr, it comes with dovetail rings, no problems so far.
